Apparently, when I first stumbled on this place some years back when I got my first Tundra, I forgot to introduce myself. Sorry about that, Chief!

    Gojira.jpg

So, this was 4 years ago. At the age of 56, I bought my very first truck. A 2000 Access Cab with the 4.7L motor that the previous owner(s) had equipped with Toyo Open Country AT tires, a 2" lift, cap, Biltstein shocks and some kind of aftermarket mufflers - I don't remember what he called them. He used it to go cut wood here in Vermont and truck it home.

I used it to plow my driveway with a RediPlow and tow a one ton trailer back and forth to gun shows - I have my FFL and a small home based part time gun shop. Full time, I'm a phone guy.

We named it Gojira because he's a large, powerful, old, green Japanese monster that roars.

Here's him now at 21 and 222K miles:

He's getting up there in age and I've had a few large repairs to do - rear diff seals, major league brake work (Vermont winters are rough on the running gear) and most recently the alternator. (What IDIOT thought it was a good idea to design an engine so you had to replace the alternator from UNDERNEATH???) So he's going to get retired to plow truck duties; just mentioning that I was going to sell him on my FB profile had 5 friends reaching out to ask how much.

The new beast: 2018 SR5 DC with TRD Off-road package. The Bolo. I took ONE LOOK at all the electronics in this thing and after realizing that he had radar that was actually able to hit the brakes BY ITSELF, no other name was possible. You see, a Bolo is a self-aware tank with a highly advanced positronic brain. Classic science fiction, written by Keith Laumer. Click the link for the first story.

So far, he's had a toolbox and running boards added. In coming days, a Boss HTX plow will be added so I can use him to plow my driveway in winter - I live 1300' up in the Green Mountains, and I usually don't see my driveway from sometime in November until April.

Eventually I'll get a cap and sell the toolbox. Come spring, I'll install my ham rig and (possibly) a Chicken Band radio and the appropriate antennas. Extra backup lights will be added, since I have to deal with hooking and unhooking trailers in winter darkness. And that's about it.

I'm kind of in awe of how much some of you spend on your trucks - since there's not a lot of off-roading I'm aware of up here in Vermont, there's not a lot of point in my doing all those suspension and driveline mods - at least, I can't think of a reason for it, anyway. I'm sure someone can point out stuff I haven't thought of yet. :)
