New to me 2007 with 59,600 miles
I've been waiting for the New Tundra I-Force Max for over a year. I own a 2007 Tundra I have owned a Lexus RX 400-H for the last 15 years. My wife has owned a 2007 RX 400-H since new and just got a NX Hybrid to replace it. Before that two other Toyotas.

I'm telling you all of this to let you know that I am familiar with Toyotas and really like their reliability.

Knowing that, today I placed my order for the 2022 F-150 PowerBoost with Pro-Power on board. I was able to get it about 5,000 under MSRP. If you own Ford stock or you can even join the Mustang Club of America and qualify for X-Plan pricing.

I'm disappointed in the Tundra I had really high hopes especially when they came out with the marketing campaign "World Beater". Well now that I've seen it, it's not a World Beater, it's an "Also Ran" but it has great reliability.

The main things I like about the Ford are the Pro-Power Generator and Mileage. The screen on the Tundra is better than the F-150. I got the fold flat seats and a few other options that the Tundra doesn't offer. I can even get in the bed of the F-150 without carrying a ladder ;) I really, really, don't like the the front mustache on the tundra. Everything else is give and take.

Anyway, I'm not here to pick a fight or start crap I joined the the forum in Nov 2019 and really liked the feedback and want to thank all of you for the help. I'm still going to be hanging around because I'm keeping the 2007 for a while as my personal truck the F-150 is my company vehicle.

Wish people would quit quoting "world Beater". Toyota never once said that. That was a quote by 1 dealer

I went with the SR5 TRD Off Roaf package.

Love the way it runs and drives; feels solid. Interior is nice. Overall, I'm happy with what I got.

    But.......

Toyota should have just straight up stole Chevy's rear bumper design. I mean, you can't get much more simple, reliable, and effective than that (if Chevy/GMC could build the rest of the truck like that, I wouldn't be driving a Toyota).

And tow hooks? I mean, c'mon man....

Basically, Toyota built a luxury SUV and slapped a platic bed on the back end of it. Good driver, but a bit impractical for someone who needs a truck to be a truck most days of the week.

I hope you Prius-driving, bean-counting decision makers at Toyota are reading this. Y'all might oughta hold a few focus groups of truck-owners first before you design the Gen 4.

I apoligize if I'm ranting, but I'm on my 4th Wild Turkey and the practical deficiencies of the Gen 3 have me a little fired up.

Agreed. It’s a tacoma+. It’s a light duty. I love how it looks and how the interior looks in pictures but in person it seems small and flimsy. They downsized it. I could very likely be in a ford next also. I’m glad mine is a ‘20 I’ll be hanging on to if for a good while.

I currently have a 2020 lease. It not up for another 16 months. 2 things kept me away from the new Tundra. One is this ridiculous vehicle economy. The 2nd was the 22 Tundra. It’s not a game changer like it was when it came out in 07.

I’m a very satisfied Toyota owner (present and past including RAV4 hybrid, Sienna and Camry) and I’ve been looking forward to the new Tundra since the first chatter about it started. When Toyota National Dealer Advisory Council Chairman Robby Findlay was quoted as saying “we’re going to have a world beater”, I bought in further given my strong bias for Toyota products based on my excellent experience with their products. There have been a number of issues with the new Tundra but I’d like to believe Toyota will get it right as their reputation is on the line. I’ve test driven two of the new Tundras (SR5 CrewMax and Limited Double Cab) and I was impressed with both trucks. I’m waiting for the full hybrid specs to be released at which time I’ll pull the trigger on my order. I expect Toyota will deliver a quality product and take care of any issues that arise. Rose coloured glasses? Maybe so but I’m willing to give it a go.

I am not too worried because the LC300 shares a lot of r&d with the tundra. Should all work out ok.

The body and some of the drivetrain of my '09 Tundra was coming unglued (the motor was fine; the survivors of the nuclear apocalyspse will be cockroaches, zombies, and Toyota V8s), and fixing it up right would've exceeded it's trade-in value. Otherwise, I'd still be driving it. Great truck.

If no one buys the first year release, how would Toyota know what's wrong with them? I believe the '07 had the same reliability rating as the '22 when it was released but look at how reliability the 2nd gen is now (aside from 2012 according to MotorBiscuit).

Except none of the things that made him choose the F150 are going to be addressed in a 2023 Tundra or ever. He wanted the Powerboost MPG which is better than the iForce Max. He wanted Fords Pro-Power onboard power generator and Mike Sweers has already said Toyota owners didn't want that. If those were the two main things the OP wanted then the F150 was going to be the better choice. Those are not "first year" reliability or QC issues and they will likely never be addressed by Toyota.

    A bunch
    https://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/f-150/2021?engineconfig_id=364&bodytype_id=&submodel_id=

Based on that the average fuel economy for the Powerboost is 19 MPG. And based on Toyota's history of meeting or exceeding the iForceMax with EPA rated 21 will at worst equal the Powerboost, if not beat it.

Ford's for years have been great on fuel in very specific scenarios (highway cruising, 50 mph), get away from that and then fuel gets sucked back. The 3.5 EB is supposed to beat the Tundra 5.7 by a lot per the EPA, yet when I drive both they're quite similar.

Since you've got a 2007 (and a Ford F150 shortly) and no longer want to purchase a 2022 there's no need for you to visit the 3rd Gen forum any longer...nothing here to see...bye!

An interesting comparison with some extra creature comforts the f150 king ranch has vs tundra limited:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msLEG4wlQUk

Maybe someday someone will take the best features out of a GM/Ford/Ram/Toyota and make a supertruck with aftermarket parts.
I would buy a Plat hybrid 35" kit longbend with chrome delete, aftermarket locker and C4 hybrid front bumper/swingout rear personally.

Good Luck OP...after years of owning Toyotas and against my better judgment I bought a 2015 Platinum, F150 EcoBoost. I was swayed by all the tech Ford had to offer. After 4 years and ~42K miles, I had enough. What a POS! Front sensor malfunction causing Cruise to never work, volume up on the steering wheel would change the channel, third break light leaked molded out all the carpet and padding, Pano sunroof track disintegrated....the list goes on. All covered by warranty but only the sunroof was successfully fixed, all the other issues kept returning. I had enough and traded it in for the Ol' reliable.

Sincerely hope you have better luck as many others claim they have. I for one will never by another Ford.

Quote from Toyota or not, Toyota had 15 years to design a new truck that could be class leading… and they have failed. They haven’t even successfully made a truck with typical Toyota reliability so far with the 3rd Gen.

Yes "so far", just wait. I am not surprised with a brand new truck from the ground up to see some growing pains. 07 also had issues. Confident this will turn out to pretty damn reliable.(Fingers crossed)

Even if you get rid of your old Tundra, stick around and share what you learn and do with your F-150. Do you have any pics what you are ordering? I know it'd just be renders, but I like pictures. Color choice?
