Recently picked up a BedRug XLT for my 5.5 bed. No instructions. Part in the bed was obvious. Tailgate not so. Tailgate piece has two full length velcro strips. looking at the tailgate, it has a continuous ridge at bottom. I attempted to mount along the bottom ridge and top was at the bottom of the cap molding. No go as the fold is too large. If the fold is down, the gate will not close. I repositioned the tailgate carpet such that it was at the very top of the tailgate, this worked. The tailgate carpet now has velcro on the vertical ridges on the bottom and at very top of the tailgate, and closes.

Yeah, you have to play with the position to get the tailgate portion high enough, but won't interfere with closing. Just below the top edge of the plastic trim seems to work just fine. Velcro gets put on where needed. This Velcro has the highest bond strength of any I have ever seen.

    Lots of stuff!
My kit came with a bunch of strips for the tailgate but the only 2 big ones for the bed.

I just ran the smaller strips top to bottom on the tailgate. At first the wrinkle/joint was pointing up and now it has dropped down but doesn't seem to affect the tailgate closing.

I took the bolts off and slid my bedrug under the tailgate top. Then put the screws back on. Looks much better. 3-PXL_20240408_215040439.jpg

I am leaning towards the mat. My cap has matching material.
How is it on the knees crawling on it?
Has anyone gotten the rug that has bed lights

This is my 3rd truck with a bedrug. Under the rug there are reverse ribs of padding that allow the rug to sit flat in the bed. This is also nice for crawling around on your knees. Like when you need to get something that is up near the cab.

Yes there is a patter to for cut out on the outside but I installed it first and had all the bolts in place, pressed against bedrug and poked holes in every location to include the bed hooks so that everything was inside the bedrug to look factory as possible, took a while but well worth it.

It mentions on their site the Bedrug won’t work with the oem drop in plastic liner. Did you have to remove the liner or did it work with it? Thanks!

I have the factory sprayed in liner, not a drop in.

There is no drop in for the 3rd gen. I wish there was
It would replace the drop in on a second gen

How is it holding up? Mine delivers this Friday. Do you have the oem spray liner underneath?

Holding up great! No issues. When I did the install, I used extra Velcro tape patches and screwed it down under the tailgate. So, no issues moving around or coming off at all. Still looks like the day I installed it even with all my fishing and bee keeping gear in there 24/7!

PS. No, I ordered the spray on liner but they didn't put it in in the factor/port. So I went without it. With the bedrug you really don't need it.

Thats good to hear that its holding up. I had one in my previous truck and it was awesome. I'll have to tuck it under the tailgate cap too, looks very clean. I have the bed lights, so will have to cut around those as well.

When I installed mine the easiest way to make holes for the tie down system, 120V plug port and the side lights was to use a soldering iron. Put the bed mat in place and burn the holes in using the soldering iron. Makes for a neat install with no frayed edges or overcuts. The other thing I did was to get some edge trim from Amazon. I put it over the felt edging on the tailgate portion. Haven't had a problem with it moving or shifting at all and it protects that finished felt edge.

Installed my bedrug today. About 5 hours of work.
My best recommendation is to zipper it on the floor with botton side up. This will make you life easier.
If you have a rollup tonneau, you might need thicker side seals since the clamps won't tight enough with the rails separated from the sides a good 1/8 or more.20250329_145316.jpg 20250329_152220.jpg 20250329_154222.jpg 20250329_161735.jpg 20250329_181856.jpg 20250329_193544.jpg 20250329_145316.jpg 20250329_152220.jpg 20250329_154222.jpg 20250329_161735.jpg 20250329_181856.jpg 20250329_193544.jpg

Doing this install this weekend...did you do any cutting to get this to fit under the lip? I assume you had to poke some holes in the bedbug to accommodate the screws, but the plastic trim is bulging quite a bit, so I'm just curious if you just put the edge under or if you went all the way up to the top of the trim piece?

    Thanks!

I did the same thing...Used a soldering pen to burn a hole through. No bulge after its all bolted down and I just tucked it all the way up as far as it would go.
