I ended up cutting heads off front 2 bed bolts. I know about unplugging harnesses. I'm bit confused on what to remove or unhook at gas cap? I know the part surrounding the cap (4 screws).. But do I just unhook the bracket from something on inside by filler /cap? Does the filler tube stay connected to the gas tank? Thanks

What are you trying to achieve by removing the bed? Are you cleaning up the frame or putting a flatbed on there instead? Just curious.

Clean up area. the actual frame decent but bed framing not so great. I just want to make it easier down road if bed needs removed for better one. It looks great on outside but rust got to underside braces. I am also working on replacing tank straps this will give me more light..more room I think. O don't imagine that bed brace is available so might even build my own if won't clean up. Tank may get removed so I can heat up those 2 bolts I had to cut heads off.

Just curious, why are you starting a new thread every time you have a question concerning the same job? It makes it much easier for others to help if you keep it all in one place. For a quick second I though there were a bunch of new members taking their beds off.

I can't figure out process of unhooking at gas cap area to lift bed off. I watched a youtube videa but my 2005 does not remove that outer splash surround when removing the 4 screws? Can someone explain to me what needs done at gas cap area before lifting bed off? It is a 2005 4x4 sr5 AC

This is from the 2003 FSM, but might give you some clarification

Thanks on schematic.. must be some variation from 2003 and 2005. By filler neck is attached to the outer fuel inlet pipe shield.. I can't see how it separates from it? like it has a metal ring or clip keeping them together as one. I will try to unhook the vent line and the filler tube ..and mounting bracket underside and see if that filler assembly can get lifted with the bed.

Some one give me step by step how to load on here? Grandson might sop over to do later in week. My initial analyses is the main frame looks pretty solid. some surface rust towards back. the cross members bit more but nothing through. the underside of bed has one cross bracing not to great but will deal with it later. My plan is to drill out gas tank strap bolts. one is broke off..assuming other will do same. I think will need new spare tire raising assembly. Then once those issues addressed will brush, scrape any rust and/or undercoating off best I can and paint as much of frame I can with POR15. Not decided on dropping gas tank yet.. but think I will. Hope it isn't as hard as it looks from above.

The frame has mix of surface rust to flaking rust but most is the undercoating and paint. For WI guess could be worse. The to forward bed bolts I had to cut heads off to get bed off. With bed off I can see why they would not move. rusted solid and partially deteriorated. I think I will end up cutting off and drill out. Hope I can get a M12-1.5 tap. If had too I could drill out the pad that the bolt is rusted in..Then weld a metric nut onto a plate and slide it on the inside of pad where nut was originally welded. I will pull tank and try heat first. I don't have a torch just the bottle kind. I will get pics..soon. Another issue is the charcoal canister carring tray ( frame) is shot.
