I just picked up a new TRD Pro and need a bed cover. In my now traded 2014, I had a Bak Roll-X and was generally happy with it, but didn't like having to remove my factory bed rails for it to mount.

I saw a Tacoma with the Toyota OEM cover, and it seems that on the Tacoma oem bedcover the mounting is done by using the factory rails which hold some hardware that the cover latches onto. Not sure I'm right about this, but it looked that way.

Anyone know which brands and models use the existing rails instead of forcing you to remove them and remount with some type of extension? That's what I'm trying to avoid.

    Thanks.

I have the Truxedo Lo Pro QT in my Crewmax and like it. The lifetime warranty is a huge plus.

Most of them have an option of using rails.

I'm guessing that my question might be clarified a bit. I've seen those models of bed covers that give you a choice of ordering a setup that either says "with factory rails" or without.

But to me, its not clear what that means. My old BAK Rollx I think just shipped some relocating extensions that hung down after you mounted the bedcover hardware in the space vacated by moving the factory rails, which you had to do, and let you re-attach the rails on those extensions at a lower level in the truck. That's what I'm looking to avoid. I'm afraid that the "with" or "without" rails option just ships you a set of "relocating" hardware for your factory rails instead of hardware that will use the factory rails as the main foundation mount. The latter is what I'm looking for. I think the oem listed cover does it that way, but I'm interested in alternative brands before I decide which to pick.

    Alot of them
Undercover has a kit that gives you the option to mount their covers to the rails without relocating them. I have a rail relocation kit on mine since my cover was missing that hardware.

I just went thru this. Bought a truck with no bed rails and wanted them, but found out I needed the alternate clamps. Agri-cover wanted $85 + shipping. Said nahhh.

The affordable Tyger soft cover on Amazon comes with both style clamps (bed rail and no rail). Some of the bigger brands will good-will you the bed rail clamps if you're nice. Otherwise most will have 2 different kits. Just make sure you order the ones for the bed rail.
