Just happened to notice that the passenger side gasket (that runs vertically in the space between bed/cab) is rubbing the paint down to the primer. Went for oil change and recalls on Monday and noticed this. Dealer is going to order another gasket. Not that big of a deal, just notifying everyone to keep an eye on theirs.

Will find out when the part comes in. Hopefully they touch it up but if not, I'll take care of it.

Looks like there is a piece of protective film a little further back. I guess that was the control measure but unfortunately it just doesn't line up.

Mine has paint protective film everywhere the gasket touches. No visible wear yet (22K miles)

Took a look at mine tonight, i have a film there as well, both sides of mine have little wear lines but its not an indent or anything yet, just lines that rubbed away and you cant feel any ridges in them. But still, i have only driven on streets and only have about 8500 miles. Seems like its bound to wear through eventually? I may be wrong though.

This has been bothering me, dealer in my case would just tell me to pound sound if i showed them mine (rightfully so, nothing technically wrong yet) but down the road is bothering me. What about a thin foam strip stuck to the edge of the gasket like this?

What purpose does this rubber gasket serve? I've never seen or noticed this on any other truck.

All in the name of aerodynamics my friend; i.e. fuel economy ratings....also maybe a smidge of noise reduction as well.

A bright idea Toyota stole from GM. GM is nice enough to put a thick piece of plastic opposite the rubbing rubber.
