I had the unfortunate circumstance of someone backing in to my truck while parked at the airport. No note of course... took it in to get repairs and learned that replacement headlights for the fancy LED versions are... wait for it... $2,160! OUCH. For one headlight. I decided as soon as I get my truck back I will be investing in some PPF for the headlights...

This little damage ended up being $5,600...

This is one reason when I park,I park with the nose in so if I do get clipped it is the rear of the truck that takes the damage and not the front. That does suck, what is your deductable? Nice looking truck!

Did your dash cam not pick up on the impact? The airport parking lot might have some cameras too.

Thanks everyone - it does SUCK indeed. But I decided there are bigger things in life to worry about... so just getting it fixed and moving on...

Thanks! Deductible is $500 so not the end of the world... it does suck it is a BRAND NEW truck. Only have 2,500 miles on it...

I don't think so. I actually haven't even connected the dashcam to my phone. But it was parked for about 5 days. I'm not sure when it happened, and I don't believe the dashcam records while the truck is off. I did report it to the airport police. They were all over it since I think they get bored with nothing to do. Unfortunately the airport only has cameras by the elevators, so nothing was caught that they could see.

Sorry to see this. You can pop the memory card out of your camera and watch it on your computer with the software from toyota. I was able to watch all the washes my truck for before i picked it up. It is a micro SD card, so you might need an adapter to regular SD.

I would bet it caught it, you can send it on to your insurance co to chase.

    Good luck.

Is this the cost for you to buy the headlights or a shop to do it?

pretty sure I’ve seen several post for them being around or under $1500

My OEM camera records whenever there’s enough of a disturbance. Closing a door hard enough sets it off at times. It’s easy enough to go back and review the recordings on the app. Highly recommend getting it set up.

This is great info - I’ll definitely take it out and see if it caught what happened. Judging by the damage there was a pretty decent impact….

That was just the cost of the part. The shop was just ordering it directly from Toyota. Probably can find them cheaper, but that’s what the shop told me the new part cost.

I will definitely get this set up as soon as I get my truck back. Learned this one the hard way I should have set it up sooner!

OP your tundra didn't come with the integrated dash cam? It saves video when it detects a high g force event. This could help sorry this happened. It still saves the videos on the memory card if you have never set it up.

I remember my jerk-knee reaction to wrap the headlights of my then new gen 2.5, because the headlights are, you know, expensive, right? No. LED headlight was $300-something, compared to $1200 for Volvo.

I hope so too! If it was a small scratch or rub, I would get someone might not have realized. But this was a decent smash…

I do have the dashcam. Planning to pull the video as soon as I get my truck back from the shop to see what it might have picked up! Hopefully it will have something usable.

Thanks! I got the TRD lift a few months back and it looks like a proper truck now. Perfect size… big and beefy but not silly and unpractical huge.

Sorry to see this. Had my Pro two weeks. Came outside and noted a crease/small dent behind the rear passenger door. Went back inside the store (Firearms Shop) and they let me view the security camera's of the parking area. All recorded-white Malibu pulls in-see the truck move. Malibu backs out and drives away.
Call police and they took report, etc. Have heard from them since the incident. In the end, did not pursue as had local shop repair. Private business-veteran owned tech who was able to pull out the small dent and crease, replaced the edge molding and buff out scuffing. :) The cost was well under my deductible.

I see it-but I'm focused on my vehicles condition. Average person won't notice. The win here was able to keep this off the Carfax Vin record.

We had a similar surprise with my wife's new Corolla. Some jerk didn't secure his load and a mattress flew out and hit the front of the Corolla.
Dislodged the bumper cover and scuffed up a headlight and the aim went high....so I checked the price on replacement headlight from Toyota, $1200 each! We paid less than $21k for the car brand new (right before pandemic) so that means if you need to replace both headlights on a Corolla, it'll cost nearly 12% of the new cost of the car!
Kind of worried that such expensive, fancy headlights may be a liability as the car ages...
The fact that you can't replace the "bulbs" like previous HID headlights has me concerned....

Same goes for the taillights, all LED too. Expensive, not sure if that's best for a budget vehicle....

Well lets hope the aftermarket segment steps up and comes out with a cheaper / better engineered product for the masses.
