first off I'd like to tell the people that helped with my 4x4 that I was having a bad grinding noise. it was the front axle. now when i leave the doors open if i'm cleaning the truck for abt 1hr the battery goes dead. won't start, I did put a new battery in it, the charging amp like 13.8-14.2
it is charging good. had a mechanic put it under a load test and charging fine. has anyone had this problem? even if i play the radio for like 1.5 hr with the doors open, battery dead. put it on the trickle charge have no problem after that starts fine, just don't leave the doors open.like yesterday putting on a new mirror drivers side. abt 1 hr, battery dead, I don't get it. sorry 2015, 5.7 engine

Well for starter you need to find the spec of the battery. How old? What is the reserve capacity rating? The older the battery the less reserve capacity you have. You leave the door(s) open with all the interior lamps on. It’s going to drain battery. You still have incandescent bulbs or switched to all leds inside?

best practice is to turn off the interior lights using the switch near the headlights angle adjustable, side view mirror adjustment, etc.. or better yet, unhook the battery if you’re going to be working on it for that long or longer.

I had a similar occurrence. Then I changed all of my interior light bulbs to LED and didn't experience the issue again, had the door open for 7 hours and the truck started no problem.

Leds draw so little amp, so your battery won’t die quick. But old incandescent bulbs gets hot and draw more so it goes quick. Even quicker on an old battery. Does your truck not kills the light automatically after a certain time?
I notice my 21 would do this after some time to conserve battery.. it just turns all the light off. If you have he truck on at the ON position, it will kill that also..

I thinking having the drivers door open turns on a few systems in the truck. I found this out while chasing a parasitic drain on my Dads Tacoma.

If you keep draining your battery and then charging it will die an early death. Starting/cranking batteries are not designed to handle discharge/charge cycles like a deep cycle battery. Every time you drain 1 it loses reserve capacity.

I was thinking lights automatically shut off after 45 minutes.

I have vleds, they are a little more pricey but quality is good. I've had the cheaper ones and end up replacing them more often. The brand lasfit is also good. No issue with them .

I've also been happy with vleds. I had one fail in the first week, they shipped me a new one the same day I called. They stand behind their products.

Keep in mind that LED bulbs are polarity sensitive unlike the OEM bulbs. If you install 1 and it does not light flip it.

Back in the day I had a big amp in my F150. It would kill the battery in about an hour.

I do this religiously. I hit the switch for the interior and cargo lights - I have running board lighting (LED) too so that goes night night when I kill everything.

Same here. If i know i will be working with any door open, i hit the switch to off. Both interior and cargo. Have not kill the battery yet doing this way..
