I checked 5he out put on 5he alternator and it’s not putting anything out
I’m wondering if it’s the fuses. I don’t know where they are
I think I have 4 of them. I can’t believe that one day it’s charging fine then today it’s not. No warning. ‼️. I would like to know what you guys think?
I’m bringing her into the dealer tomorrow I believe she ( my truck) is still under warranty

You just got unlucky it seems. Definitely sounds like alternator.

You might have waited too long to replace the battery. An alternator can be destroyed by a weak battery. What warranty program do you have?

Well then maybe it will be covered. If you replaced the battery, they may try to claim that you caused the issue. These clowns nowadays....

I hope so. I will post here the results. I’m thinking it’s a fuse only because yesterday it was good. Now today. Nothing. Not charging

All of a sudden? That’s exactly what happened, one day it was good the next day it wasn’t charging at all
I remember when your alternator went out or was go8ng out the battery light would fade on then you gave it 5he gas and it would go out or was
But with today’s advancement. It gives you no warning. Fantastic. But 8 will let you know what happens when i get my truck back. It’s in now.
Now I have to reprogram everything. But in my 1969 GTO you can take the battery out. Put it in and everything is as it was. That’s progress. B/ S

    Just got the answer
    It was my alternator.
I owned cars my whole life, junk cars, used cars, and I can’t only remember one time I had to change an alternator.
Now Toyota, the tundra no less. Built tough, built to last. The alternator fails

I need a new battery too. Last time my battery was dead but didn't know I thought it was a good idea that day to use the remote start only to hear the alternator cranking nonstop.

My battery was the original to my 2018. So it’s 7 years old and it was still good. The alternator failed.
Yes they covered the part and labor under the warranty if I had to pay for a new alternator the price would be over $1400.00. She told me that’s what they paid bu5 if I was responsible it would have been over $2000.00
For an alternator? Really. And 5he rear brakes were worn down just as bad as my front brakes, how is that possible

That old battery likely killed the alternator prematurely. Rear brakes work equally hard on the 2.5 gen Tundra.

Not trying to be confrontational but I can assure you that the original, from-the-factory battery that is 7 years old is far from "good". As others have suggested I bet its recent lack of "goodness" is what resulted in your alternator failure. My understanding is that an alternator swap on these trucks is a bit of a bear, so it will involve some labor.

Regarding your brakes - also a known issue as others have indicated. 34k miles might be a little early, but do you tow much? Haul much? lots of city stop and go driving? Heavy on the go pedal too (generally means heavy on the stop pedal as well)? All of these things (and more) can lead to premature brake wear.

7 years and a new battery, alternator (that you didnt have to pay for thanks to your warranty), and new brakes?? Pretty good all things considered. I certainly would keep those kind of complaints to the 2nd gen forums :spy:

They always checked my battery when I got my oil change and it always came back good. I had no problem at all with the battery.
As far as my brakes. I don’t know why they were worn down that much. I drive very carefully I don’t take off fast and I don’t stop fast. Actually I’m a good driver I drove a 18 wheeler for 40 years and got awards. I know how to drive that’s what doesn’t make sense. I don’t tow and I don’t have weight in my bed. True my wife could loose a few pounds lol I didn’t say that.

Battery voltage is not an accurate indicator of battery health. Load test is.

Its also important to top off your cells with distilled water to increase life on battery.

The battery was fine. The alternator went bad.
I’d did replace the battery only because it was getting old not because it went bad
The alternator was the problem. I think I just got a bad one
7 years old and only 34000 miles and my truck was always taken care of.
I also did the brakes and brake line flush
And don’t forget. I. T. S. A. T. U. N. D. R. A. Toyota. Let’s go places. Yeah right. Very surprised that the alternator failed at such low miles and a pretty new truck. That was taken care of. 100 percent from day 1

Yes, its 100% toyotas fault. You in no way stressed a component that is near unheard of to fail before 100,000 miles. The unqualified 19 year old screwing up your oil change was absolutely correct that your almost 8 year old battery he likely never even checked was good. Toyota sucks. Lock this thread.

Stuff is going to happen. It sucks that a bad alternator was put on but as you know, anything man made can fail at any time. At least you SHOULD be g2g now.

I hope you are right. I should not have that problem for a long time now. I also had my brakes done. Front and back and a brake fluid flush. I was very surprised that they said they could resurface the rotors. My rotors were to me perfect condition. I know they always want to replace them. So that was good that they didn’t. Still over $1000.00 but it’s O. E. M. Brake pads Toyota fluid. All. O. E. M

    THIS ^^^^^^^^^.

I've been in an around Toyotas since 1985. I have never heard of or experienced a Toyota alternator "going bad" at 34,000 miles. Veeeeeeeeeery unusual.
