I'm having to keep a charger on my 2009 Crewmax Tundra. Not constantly because I don't want to cook my battery which is fairly new.
How do I find what is causing this drain on my electrical system? It may be getting worse. I avoid driving it because of the cost of gas.

Put a clamp-on current probe around the wire(s) coming off of the + battery terminal and start pulling fuses. Look at the reading each time you pull one. That’s where I would start.

That’s a very old, but very effective way to find a parasitic battery drain. I always started with all the 15A fuses first since that is where usually found the most problems.

How about we start by finding out if you actually have parasitic drain? Your battery could just be shit.
Unhook your positive terminal. Put a multi meter between your cable and the positive terminal. Allow some time for the truck to go to sleep and measure how much current draw you got. Report back what you measure.

Good point. He could actually have one of the cells starting to go bad.

Using a battery "maintainer" continuously won't "cook" your battery (it might actually increase the life of your battery). My Tundra sits for weeks at a time and a "smart" charger is connected to the battery all the time. There is some normal parasitic drain on the battery when the truck is just sitting.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Makes sense and I'll start doing those things. I'm kind of retarded when it comes to electrical issues, which I shouldn't be at my age. I have the multimeter but not very competent with it.
My Tundra is a 2009 with about 97.5 thousand miles and, I'm surprised that my battery was purchased in Dec 2019. Maybe it is weak. I buy so many batteries it's hard to remember when I buy them and for what. I do have the charger on right now. Maybe I should look for a maintenance charger to keep on it.
Other question was do I have any new electrical component that were installed about the time I started having problems. I bought one of those android Chinese radios I still can't figure out, new mirrors for towing, and a couple of cameras, front and back, so something could be up with those.
Thanks for your suggestions as they are very welcome. Y'all have a good day.

2.) -V does the battery when charged sit around 12.8V (the - flat line V is DC ~V is AC)
3.) when the Tundra is running is the Battery getting 13.2V to 14.8V

after preforming these let me know the answer, an we can go from there.:)

Thanks for your reply. Good points to check.
Terminals are clean and tight. I will have to go out and check those things with a meter but I do appreciate that. I've been outside cutting trees in my yard and doing other manly stuff. I need to go put the charger on it so that will be a good opportunity to check.

Reply to Toyofan; I don't have a picture handy. It's silver and jacked up 6 inches. It has the 5 ft bed which irritates the heck out of me. Have to use a trailer to go get building materials. I use the truck to pull a 30 ft trailer which it does just fine. It needs some new 30" tires at this point. I've had a lot of complements on it. My grandson uses it more than me. I need, and am looking for, a camper shell so I can take my dogs with me.
