Hey all. Here to tell you about a common tundra issue if you do a lot of heavy towing.for two months it sounds like someone beating on my frame with a hammer ⚒️ Everytime I let of the gas. Maybe one bang maybe ten..turns out after tearing the rear end apart it's the keeper pin for the spider gear pin..broke..lets the pin slide and hit the ring gear..hope this help someone with an unknown bang bang noise.both pins are 105$ from the dealership.

Glad you got it fixed. I haven't heard of this in a while. How many miles on your 2009?

Apparently this is a frequent, if not common failure on our trucks. My '07 w/160K had broken this pin but not spit anything out. If I didn't pull the 3rd for Zuk to install a LS, I'd have kept driving it and it had no symptoms. Ended with a little scuffing of the ring gear outside of the engagement area and still running it 15K later.

My 09 tundra has 246,000 mi on it and I have towed heavy loads almost from Coast to Coast with it for the last 7 years this broken pen in the rear end is the only problems I've ever had

I’m just here for the bangin’ in the rear comments. That said, this failure was just another reason to install a powertrax LSD.

Pretty glad I had that Powertrax LS installed before I had any type of bang bang action in my rear end. Feel like I really lucked out!
