At the local tire shop getting some 40" tires mounted and balanced onto new Icon wheels. All but one tire/wheel balanced fine. On the last one, the machine said to place 18.5 ounces on one side and 20 ounces on the other (exact opposite) side of the wheel. The shop tech said this is excessive. The master tech came and said it's odd but to do it anyway.

My question is this: is it legit to cut the ounces by equal fraction to 9.25 and 10 ounces respectively? I'm not sure why the amount has to be so high if each side is balancing off the other. For that matter, is it possible merely to have 0 and 1.5 ounces respectively? I may take this particular wheel/tire combo to another shop for a second opinion. Anyone have experience here?

    Alot of them
Have then rotate the tire to a different position on the rim and see what happens when they balance it.
