Hey all! Picked up an MX4 that had been on someone else’s Tundra for about 6 months. Great condition, great deal, but when getting out of the truck tonight I noticed there’s quite a bit of a gap at the tailgate. The instructions say to push the cover up to the bulkhead as far as it will go, but perhaps I just need to pull it back a bit towards the tailgate?

Just curious if anyone else has had this issue? I’m sure it will leak based on the amount of light that’s visible from the bed light that comes through. (Yes I know that no cover is really waterproof)

Thoughts? Easy as just pulling it back? It seems to push up the tailgate when closing already so wasn’t sure if this would cause an issue with closing by pulling it back. Thanks!

Yep. I had a BakFlip that got hail damage, got another one but now that they switched ownership, the fit and finish of the new sucks compared to the first one I had… you can move it around until it fits your tailgate better, but no matter how many times I position mine it still gets a gap… I don’t need the water tight bed so I try not to let it bug me.

Looks too far forward to me. Pictures of how mine is positioned in the front and the tail gate. Very happy with the bedcover.

IIRC, the instructions say to push the forward mounting tab as far forward as possible. Then the cover is adjusted in the elongated slot fore-aft.

I have the same gap on mine, just installed it a couple weekends. Just a slight adjustment to pull back towards the tailgate. it doesn't need to be so far forward touching the back of the cab practically.

I installed my MX4 cover so that it overlaps the tailgate by about 1/2".

Does yours open fine with the button/remote with it slid this far back?

yes. Perfectly. Even with the back panel latched. It's a very good fit. I have it positioned so the three wipe strips sit on the top of the tailgate.

No seated right need to loosen and readjust. Look under to see if you see any light coming through if not you’re good to tighten up

I pulled mine back about half and inch and if I hit the button on the tailgate or use my remote I hear it pop to open, but it doesn’t actually drop.

I don't think there is anyway to adjust the cover vertically up/down is there? Other than the fore/aft mine was great out of the box.

With a 1/2" overlap at the tailgate, my tailgate opens and closes with no conflicts with the MX4, and it is reasonably leak proof.

It seems you might be able to raise the brackets on the rail up a bit, hence the elongated hole? Not positive though, gonna try in the morning.

This is all I really hope for lol. I don’t expect it to be fully waterproof. When I pull it a half inch towards/on the tailgate it gets stuck when I pop it which also makes me assume I’m pushing it up further when I close it than I should be?

I was playing with 1/16 inches to get mine right. It sits now just enough to seal the tail gate but not overhanging it so it can still open automatically and drop the bed. Since yours is used it's hard to also tell how good or bad the install is, that will make a difference also.
