Hello everyone, I’m new to the Toyota Tundra scene. I was given a free 2007 Toyota tundra and it came with a problem. I would appreciate all the help that I can get. I was told that the truck had a bad transmission ( I don’t think it had a bad transmission). It’s drivable and can go into all gears! The only problem is when the truck goes up a hill, it wouldn’t go. Seem to be slipping (reving). Does this sounds like a bad torque converter?

Did you check the trans fluid/level?

Welcome from Northeast Connecticut. It sounds like the bands are slipping.

This isn’t an easy task. These transmissions are sealed without a dipstick.

You would need a techstream and the procedure.

I would pay for a service at a transmission shop. You could be low on fluid, but I would wonder where it went.

    He’s a 2007.
24MM fill plug? Shouldn’t be that hard to check.
I agree on shop - but I’d arm myself with enough info I could check on my own before taking in.

I would argue that it’s actually easier to check the fill plug than it is pulling out the dipstick on a 3.4 4runner and putting it back in! LMAO!!!

(Spent over 30 minutes loaded up before an off-road excursion trying to fiddle that Fing stick back into the hole)

I don’t know if these have the transcooler/radiator issue - but at least if he could check fluid and make sure it’s not a coolant milkshake that would arm him with some knowledge lol.

had an 07 that we purchased new. in 2017 I was on a road trip and it gave up the ghost on the transmission. it had been slipping off and on for about 5k miles. had the local Toyota dealer look at it. said it was fine. even had a local transmission shop look at it. fine no problem.

I had been driving for about 7 hours only stopping to refill with gas. Finally stopped for lunch and when I came back out it was code city on the dash. would go in reverse but in 2-5 she was toast. limped into a Toyota dealership that I had originally purchased this truck from. took them a while to get to it but their head guy said I've never seen it in person, but this one is shot. even got Toyota Corp on the phone and they were looking at it from their end. Toyota rep said they had seen just a handful of them (like less than 10) in that first year group give up the ghost.

ended up having a rebuilt Toyota tranny installed. man that sucked spending that kind of cash.
