Hi , I recently ( yesterday) got my dad's 2019 Tundra Trd Pro. It has only 16,000 miles . It has probably only been driven approximately 200 miles in last 4 years , sat all last year with fuel in it.I went and picked it up, put new battery in it, cranked ran smooth , had 1/4 tank of fuel put some Lucas fuel cleaner in tank, filled up with 93 octane . Drove it 4 or so miles . Stopped restarted and trailer tow warning , crash detection ( forget exact wording) warning and engine light came on
It ran rough but did get me home slowly, ( only a couple miles) . I checked all fluids oil is good and so on. I snooped around a bit and I believe somewhere on this site I saw a thread concerning the same warning and as I recall is was explained that mostly those warnings are not relevant to what they indicate but rather the problem in one case was low oil, another was fuel pump issues . I am thinking it is the left over fuel,( should have dumped or sucked that out). Anyway will check codes tomorrow ( a friend has my code reader) . Thinking I might need to drop tank or suction out if possible and clean lines possibly. Hopefully injectors are ok. I knew when I got the truck this was a possibility but it ran pretty good at first but the I only drove it a few miles. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Well,
I think so , have had a couple other vehicles go into limp mode , This one ran a bit rougher, i did disconnect neg battery and it ran good for a short time then went back to running rough. Idles fair but def not running well when in gear .

Sounds like it went into limp mode or at least the CEL mode where it disables most of the systems (radar cruise, vsc, etc). These modes are to protect the vehicle. There are dozens of possible codes that make these modes occur, most require the “event” to happen at least twice before they are “confirmed” and set off the CEL and disable systems.

I would simply wait and see what codes they actually are then go from there. Likely no point in speculating as it could be all kinds of things (mice ate some wire, old gas, valves stuck, etc.).

Most pump gas has ethanol and will acquire alot of water especially in a semi empty tank after a few months of sitting and can’t be corrected easily. Most fuel stabilizers make a film on top of the fuel to prevent this, but needs to be added beforehand plus limited movement to not disturb the film (or so I have seen).

Toyota used a soy based wire insulation which attests rodents. They try to eat the insulation and in turn destroy the wiring harnesses in these trucks. A truck that’s been sitting for 4 years would be concerning.

Could also be a fouled plug, clogged injector, as fuel sitting that long in the tank will start to crystallize. Could be the Air injection pumps as well. You need to get the codes read and see what comes up, as nobody here will have a solid answer until we know codes.

Any time you can drain the tank and start fresh helps remove doubts or issues.

that said, good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks, thinking what ever codes I come up with ,I'm pretty sure old gas will the issue, however could be mice/wires but haven't seen much evidence , just got truck. Have 2 other cars i am dealing , one is a 2003 mercedes cl500 with 42,000 miles , and it hadn't been driven since 2020 .fun times coming.

Code is po307, misfire on 7th cylinder. I removed coil, sparkplug. Swapped with # 2 , cleared ,
fired engine , same lights . Seem it is the injector . With the old fuel , probably gonna remove all coils , drain tank blow out fuel lines and either replace all could or see if cleaning them is an option.dont mind replacement cost too much , being the truck is free.

Update . Been out of town, haven't messed with truck till yesterday, checked fuel pressure and it read 51 plus psi, started pulling connectors off the coil packs with engine running. , ( had po301 and 307 code) pulled Connector off #1 coil , ran slightly worse (engine was rough to begin with) reconnected 1, pulled 7 , same result as 1. Then pulled 3 and 5 respectively and each caused a much rougher idle. Having this result led me to think it had to be spark plugs, I bought a set and changed 1 and 7 and it runs great. Will change rest in a day or 2.
