This may seem frivolous but after being in my friend's 2024 Rav4 and seeing how much better the quality of the backup camera is, I was wondering if anyone had upgraded the camera on a 2017 or similar Tundra? If anyone has please post what you did.

Even upgrading the camera the image would still be limited by the head unit. Head unit have come a long way over the last several years.

I have a Pioneer DMH-WC8600NEX head unit but the camera quality is the same as the OEM head unit. Is it the camera lens or the computer that controls the quality?

Primarily the camera itself. Most cameras are just built for assistance and not really for anything HD.

But the clarity is weak! Newer vehicles look like 4K compared to mine which isn't even HD.

What’s worse is the damn camera view is WAY off-center when in Tow Mode! You would think ; #1 they’d change the tailgate handle. #2 they’d have a view angle adjustment in the monitor menu.
