2014 Tundra SR5 5.7L 4wd and my backup camera has suddenly gone black on the screen. I've cleaned the connector at the back thoroughly with no change in status. Even tried my plug and play remote camera that I use when the tailgate is off for the camper and still black. Infotainment screen is good otherwise. Any directions on how to troubleshoot these things? Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.

    Does it look like this?

Mine did that for about 2 weeks a few years ago.
It seemed to fix itself and hasn't done it since.

You might try cleaning the connector in and under the tailgate.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. It's the stock standard screen (not Kenwwod) and is 100% black now. Got some pixelation after one attempt to clean the connector at the tailgate and then back to black it went. Might try a bit of dielectric silicone on the connector....

Added symptom of this problem is that the radio volume is also way lower than normal. This makes me think the issue is with the head unit or it's connections. Anyone have any experience cleaning/servicing these connections? Or do you just replace the head unit?

I would take that as a good excuse/reason to change out the craptastic OEM head unit. Toyota did lots of things right on these trucks... the HU is not one of them.

And as long as you're doing it, do it big!:bananadance:

You can enter the hidden menu and see what "U" codes are present for toubleshooting. Video isn't a Tundra but principle is the same. Works on my '15 Camry and "21 Tundra. Also can perform speaker test in there.

My daughters 4Runner did this - it ended up being a dirty ground wire. I would find out where the ground is located and inspect / clean that with sandpaper
