Kinda irritated but the first real problem I've had with this truck. Still have backup lights.

Any basic stuff to check ?

    Too many, but not enough....
have you done any recent electrical work or anything with the tailgate or radio? Any other electrical problems? I would check wiring near your hitch.

Is your camera completely dead? When you go into R, does the screen just go black?

Also another thing to check is the cheap plastic mount bracket. If you still see the guidelines on your screen, then it's likely the bracket broke and your camera is down in the tailgate. Ask me how I know. Granted, if your screen is black and the camera is still visible from the tailgate, then your bracket isn't the problem and it's a wiring issue. New OEM replacement is the bracket and camera assembly together for like an absurd $800.

I've done nothing to this truck electrical and the screen is black when put in reverse.

If it does end up being a dead camera, I may have one AND a harness.

I’d drop the tailgate and pull off the access panel to check the connections. Also, look for fraying where the tailgate opens and closes and the wires run through.

Well lucky for you, I’ll be having surgery here soon. So I’ll have several weeks to wait.

Look under the tailgate and see if the plug is plugged in correctly, should only take 1 minute. Hopefully that's the issue.

Had the same issue once. Turned out my neighbor caught someone under my truck in the middle of stealing my tailgate. Guys snipped my wires and ran off once he was called out. Check your wires…

This was my issue, but I found a used handle, mount, and camera on ebay for $200.
