I'll be going on a month long road trip to nowhere next month with my son. I'll be running an ARB 53qt fridge and at night I bought a camping air conditioner to try out.
Since the truck doesn't have an alternator, I was wondering if anyone has tried putting in a second battery. I've seen this used to charge a lithium battery while driving but that was for a vehicle with an alternator. One person did use in a hybrid tundra and hooked it up to the regular 12v battery under the rear seat instead of an alternator. Since it's an isolated DC to DC charger it was set to charge the lithium battery after the main battery was fully charged.
Has anyone tried using something like this to add a second battery to their hybrid?
Was also thinking about switching out the stock battery to something like a Odyssey to help run things.

The truck doesn’t have an alternator?
But yea something like that would work, I recently got a 30amp Renogy dc-Dc mppt controller(solar) but it can be ran straight off the truck battery to charge the secondary lipo I have for the fridge.
How many watts does that portable AC run? That might be asking a lot from any battery

240W, 24V. One thing is it uses an ac to dc power pack, there must be a way to run it DC without having to use the AC plug, possibly 12-24v converter. Still something I have to look into.

@FrenchToasty , I installed a Victron DCDC 30A in my 24' Tundra and have noticed that even with the smart alternator settings in the Victron, that the smart alternator in the truck shuts off when the truck thinks there's no load (it doesnt notice the DCDC is pulling 30A).

Are you noticing the same thing or have you found a way of keeping your alternator on while driving?

I haven’t installed mine, nor do I have a smart alt.
But my buddy with a ‘22 installed the 50amp Dc dc mppt from Renogy and I don’t think he has experienced this.
It could be something with the victron charging or sensing profile that’s the issue
