I'd like some brighter reverse lights. Idk if simply changing the bulbs is good enough. In my taco I was able to mod a 55watt halogen bulb to fit my reverse lights and they were very bright. These bulbs are different so I can't do that. I haven't found many LED bulbs to be very bright. I'd like to add some LED flood lights, maybe 1 or 2 under the bumper, I'm not too worried about clearance issues, they won't hang below trailer hitch though. What do you all recommend? I found a set of 18watt 6 inch slim bars, but don't know if 18watt is enough but not sure. Anyone have any that they'll share info on? I'd like to keep it under $50.
    Thanks

Yeah @Pudge I saw it quoted a few times on it I just looked at 15 pages on the What have you done to your Third gen Tundra thread still can't find it, it's a black Tundra and he put 2 slim single row LED light bars on each side of his hitch or they spaced out n like e up with edges of license plate

Crap, sorry about the bum steer in the other thread. I assumed they were still a 921 bulb, I see now that they switched to a 7440 bulb for stock reverse lights.

@Pudge I swapped my reverse lights for JDM ASTAR’s off of Amazon I believe and they’ve been great for the last 18 months. $25 for a set of two. Noticeable improvement. And then as others have mentioned, there was a member that tapped in to the backup circuit with a pair of 7” single row LED bars and mounted tight to the bumper. Also around the $25-ish mark. I think they were pretty happy with the results as well.

I have the 6" slim lines mounted under my bumper, I don't have any output pics on my phone, but I can get them tonight for you.

Found the post with the output pics.

Here are some pics, the ladder I set up is about 45' behind the truck, the fence is about 75'-80' behind the truck, the metal building is another 15" on the other side of the fence. First pic is no light, the following pics are just the led reverse lights in smoked spyder housings and the 2 - 7"led bars.

I did that. Around $13 for the pair on Amazon. I eventually want to get a pair of Baja Designs flush mount back up lights like BAs' Bailey has on his Tundra.

I copied the post from back in November when I installed them, so the ebay link might not work.

They came from eBay, brand is u-box, but I'm pretty sure they are just a generic light that several companies put there name on as I have seen the same lights with different names on them. I have also seen them on Amazon under more than one name, but they are a 7" slim flood pattern led light.

Here some links to the same lights without the u-box name.
    On amazon
    https://www.amazon.com/OLS-Ultra-Slim-Single-1530lm-Waterproof/dp/B06XHXLMYT/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1510788424&sr=8-4&keywords=7"+slim+led+bar&dpID=51oTMJYe3FL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

    On eBay
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-7inch-C...ash=item5d5fa8a87b:g:EMMAAOSwxN5WYSjo&vxp=mtr

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/7-18W-Ultr...ash=item28401c1d16:g:3lcAAOSwTLlZwcmy&vxp=mtr

I had to fabricate one bracket because the bracket to mount the outside of the light needed to be 1.5"-2" longer than the one that came with it. The inside bracket, I just drilled and tapped M6x1.0 a hole into the hitch and put a bolt in, the outer bracket I used a short self tapping screw to mount it to the metal support for the bumper step. I will try and get pics tomorrow when the sun is back up, as far as a pic on the radio screen, when it is completely dark out I will get you a pic.

I mounted some under my bumper and tapped in to backup light circuit at taillight. I believe they are 6" Slimlines. Also put led bulbs in taillights. I thought floods would better but the spots are fine. They have longer range. Mine have single mounting point and used the bolts on the bumper brackets.

Ordered a set of 30w, they have spot/flood combo. Were $27 Amazon prime. Figured I'd try the 30w and multi beam for $10 more. Hope to mount them under the bumper / rear fenders, wide but we'll see how it goes. I'll post pics of options.
Anyone know off hand what sure is reverse lights on the 7 pin? I think i recall it's the center wire. Thanks everyone.

Tell me more lol. I'm not too familiar with vehicle wiring. Sounds like I should use a relay in this case. Thanks Ron

Yeah I love the look and function of the lighted step and hitch but I haven't had a chance to wire up the lights so I'm holding off the review until I can put it all to the test soon. Initial impression, I'm confident it will perform well all around and seems to be built very strong.

I'm thinking I will go in cab push button, they just came from air onboard today and match the light blue illuminated oem buttons. I want to be able to turn on at will so I can see to hook up my trailer at night plus any other time I may want some extra rear facing light and not have to be in cab in reverse.

The lights they supply with the hitch I know are good quality from KC. Maybe not a Baja Designs quality like my others but still very good quality.

The whole setup will definitely exceed that $50 price mark though. But keep in mind your getting more than just lights. Your getting a hitch step and a very capable heavy duty if needed reversible drop hitch. For me, it's a perfect combo of 3 things I felt i needed. I'm guessing it's not for everyone since we all have different needs and budgets.

Is this what I should do?

I assume I also ground each light to a ground point somewhere?

This makes a ton of sense to me now. Thanks so much. That's exactly what I want. I want them to turn on when I shift into reverse. I was just going to tap into the reverse wire in the trailer harness but I assume this way is not only the right way but also safer?

Really hard to get pics tucked up in there like they are, these are the best pics I could get of how they are mounted. They do push the bottom of the plastic out a couple of millimeters where they touch it, but it isn't noticeable.

For the record, I didn't use a relay, just tapped the reverse 12v on the back of the 7 pin and grounded each light up under the truck.
