My auto start stop doesn’t engage sometimes. Sometimes it says battery charging for example so it doesn’t even allow the option to press the brake down to engage it
    Is that normal

That is normal, it will also automatically disengage for climate control purposes as well. Or if the vehicle is not at normal operating temperature yet

I think insufficient brake pressure applied by the driver won't let it kick in either.

That’s correct however in my case it sometimes doesn’t allow it to engage even with sufficient brake pressure. It will say battery charging instead for the auto start stop

I turn mine off, that thing drives me nuts and I know it's gotten to shorten the life of the starter and for a minimal amount of fuel savings.

If you do a lot of short trips or very few stops, the battery gets depleted quickly. The battery charges when you’re braking or off the throttle in most situations. You can watch the voltmeter to confirm this. I had the same issue with a BMW but there’s no message in the BMW to tell you what’s going on.

I typically hate the auto start/stop in most vehicles. Mostly the rental cars in Europe since pressing the clutch to the floor brings engine back to life. . But in the Tundra its not obnoxious as I'm light on the brake so the engine doesn't shut off. That being said I do have an issue with the Tundra almost shutting down when I pull into my driveway and put it in park. Tach goes to zero then back to 500 RPMs. So I'm buying https://www.ebay.com/itm/1256660966...uid=utL9JdSOTki&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Just noticed your signature. The auto start/stop was the second thing I disabled on my 991.2 Turbo S. The first was the Symposer (piped in engine sound). Did the same mods on the tundra:). What are the odds of that!:monocle:

Does that thing do the same thing as pressing the button on the dash, but automatically, every time you start the vehicle? Plugs into the OBD2 port?

Yes, looks like it defaults to auto start/stop OFF rather than ON but still allows you turn it on. Not ODB2 port but instead need to wire it up to the button and fuse panel.

I think I'll be ordering this 1 as well. So far only heard that it was impossible, glad to know there is a real solution out there. I have grown accustomed to subconsciously turning the feature off every time I start the truck.

I know there are people out there that claim this doesn't hurt the starter, but you at least have to admit that it puts your battery through more charge/discharge cycles and therefore lessens its lifespan. Why bother to do that for very negligible MPG improvement?

lol start/stop is the least of my worries in ND. the brutal cold jan-feb temps usually kill any oem battery up here after 3-4 yrs up here. i went thru 2 batteries in the tundra and 3 in my 4runner.

doesnt help the vehicles sit outside for 8-10 hrs a day when its -20F while at work.

as far as the starter, going on 9 yrs on the 2014 4runner and still going strong with the oem starter.

I am receiving the device today. I'll let you know how it works out. I believe that it electronically pushes the As/s button every time you start the truck.
I wish it worked like the one i purchased for my 911. I had a choice for one that installs in the center console which only shut off the As/s. Or one that installed in the steering wheel which can put the car in "sport mode", auto bypassing the As/s. I find myself putting the Tundra in sport mode every time I start it.

I was hoping for a workaround that disabled it without throwing yet another light up on the dash. Not a fan of having to tear a panel off to wire something, either, but at least someone is trying to find a solution.

i know there is an option in techstream where you can turn off the ecu/bcm to remember last state and not reset to default?

there is an option in carista to do this, and it throws up a big screen warning before enabling it.

wondering if those would work on SS

I installed the module. Took about 30 minutes. Only had to remove one screw. Panels came off easily. Not difficult to install. It works as advertised.

There was a TSB software update to remedy the low idle, mine actually stalled out a few times. It didn't take aggressive braking for mine to die.upload_2023-3-27_12-55-58.jpg

Same problem, opposite reason. I'm in SW FL and the heat kills batteries within 3 years. Only positive is that if you get a battery with at least a 3 year warranty, you won't have to buy another one. In the past 20 years I've never had to pay for more than one battery per vehicle.

You have to firmly press the brakes for it to engage, i have no problems with it whenever i need it. I’m not a fan though, i prefer to put my engine in Neutral if idling a while in traffic or light.

I agree. I think Toyota's execution of driver nanny's is very good relative to other vehicles I've driven. They are more a suggestion, like the driving laws in Miami:(.

Carista has an option to disable the auto start/stop? If so, can you share what setting this is and if it's new, didn't see it a few months ago

Follow up. The auto As/s eliminator module has worked to rid the truck of the issue I had when I park. For those of you following along, when I pulled into my driveway and put the truck in park the engine would go to zero RPM then recover to 500 immediately. Yes I made sure I was only lightly pressing the brake.

Has anyone had an issue with the start/stop function where it will be activated when stopped at a light and when you let off the brake it makes a terrible crank/clunk noise instead of the normal engine start up? Mine just started doing this and it’s very concerning.

    None yet, doing research
I just purchased an As/s module from Amazon. It is different, in that it does not have a wire that needs to go to power. You simply plug it in to the factory switch and then plug the factory harness into the other connector on the module and it's ready to go. It literally took 45 seconds to hook up and start a test on it. Worked perfectly. There is one weird thing about it, verified by me and others that have purchased it. When you are testing it, you need to turn the truck off for 30 seconds before you test it for the next start-up cycle. Hope that made sense. Half the price of the other module that has the wire. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CM97RBKF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
