Just ordered a new Kenwood and all of the required install goodies from Crutchfield. I need some advice about the USB adaptor that comes with it. The main function that I plan on using is Android Auto but Crutchfield says that the adaptor included with the kit isn't compatible. I would like to use the existing USB and AUX in the console or an adaptor under the armrest (2019 Pro). What additional parts do I need to order before tearing this thing apart?

Which Kenwood and wiring kit did you receive. As long as the usb has 4 pins, Android auto should work. You can test it by plugging in your phone or a flash drive and see if you can access the files. 2 wired usb will only allow for charging.

Your harness should have came with 2 red and black audio/rca male jacks. You plug these in into an AV adapter that plug into the back of the deck. Bi had to but this jack separately. Harness i used is from Crux and had everything (non JBL/Nav model) except for this aux jack adapter.

There are 2 USB ports on the back of the Kenwood, one is black and one is grey (at least on the DMX905s) and the one that plugs in with the adapter to the factory usb will not work for car play and i don’t think for Android auto either. I think the grey is for car play and the black for Android but I can remember for sure. If you get an extender and use the correct USB port it will work fine.

Black for Android auto. I'm running it on my 9905. I'm using this one but you don't need one with HDMI if you choose not to or a different wire altogether. USB functions stays put and it charges your phone will on AA.

I got the dual port for the phone and Maestro if I need to reflash or upgrade without tearing the dash apart. I think that I have everything covered. Not sure where to put the USB. Dash or under the console.

How do you have the parking brake wire connected?

The RR should provide parking brake status output.

Lol. I have the 9905S and grounded the parking wire to the main ground wire. You only need the bypass for Nav unit i believe. There are videos on YouTube confirming this. Just type in Kenwood parking brake. I'm getting ready to install it this evening so we'll see if my harness works out as planned.

Looks pretty crazy but it allowed me to do testing like running deck power with preouts connected at the same time, test speakers at 4 and 8 ohm loads to pair door speakers to dash speakers/tweeters, run pairs in parallel to amp in 2 ohm , or bridged, etc, etc.

I put my car play extension in the console, I like that location and also parts I used for the install.

I am doing a similar HU replacement. Question for you: I am assuming the female OBD2 interface from the Maestro RR unit connects to the factory male OBD2 connector under the steering wheel to get the vehicle information on the Kenwood HU. This occupies the OBD2 port on the vehicle - any idea if you can install an OBD2 "T harness" to avoid occupying the OBD2 port in case you want to use an OBD2 scanner?

After getting it installed, I don't see why not other than it may stick out below the plastic and be an eye sore. Since it's only a single connection, I'm sure that you could just tap it with a Posi-tap or something.

I ended up just plugging directly into the factory OBDII port - I figure if I need to use my scan tool I can disconnect/reconnect easy enough. I think the Kenwood HU will display diagnostic codes anyways.

So far I really like the Kenwood DMX906S. Wireless Apple CarPlay is good - a few times its slow to connect. I've had it installed for a week upgraded the firmware a few days back, and today the HU rebooted for the very first time, hope thats not a regular occurrence. As others report it really does make the stock speakers sound better.
