OK guys I need y’all‘s help. I’m planning on surprising my wife are upgrading the sound system and her tundra she’s always complaining about how bad it sounds and how there is no bass. She’s had 2019 tundra non jbl crew max. I’m planning on upgrading the speakers and tweeters with a four channel and having a separate amp and sub maybe a 10. I’m not looking for anything exaggerated but something that definitely sounds better and hits. Second question is I don’t trust myself to do the install on such a new truck so I’m thinking about taking it to car toys. There’s a bunch of offbrand audio shops but some are kind of shady has anyone had any experience with car toys? Any good or bad experiences and what kind of system would you recommend

Just really depends on your budget.

I'd get a 5ch amp so you can power everything by one amp.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I wouldn't touch the amp and door speakers.
I put in a Kenwood multimedia head unit and it woke the fck out of the stock system.

I run it along with an Alpine MRV-M500 amp and 2 Infinity 10" subs. It hits pretty good, but not too hard since they're shallow mount and the box is small. It sounds well balanced to me, and the addition of Waze and Google Maps via Android Auto is a Godsend.

I use to have a pioneer avic 7100 before it got stolen. I loved that thing it’s made 2008 truck feel like 2016 back in the day. It had everything. With that said I don’t want a heady it bc that makes thieves want to steal it.

My budget is $1000-1500 and I don’t want to switch the head unit really

James can set you up with a complete JL Audio package. Components for each door, subs, box and 5 channel amp.

I’d reconsider keeping the HU. Wireless CarPlay is great.

I dont know your area but I'd check reviews on shops, how long they have been in business ect to find the good shops, shady shop pop up and disappear quick usually..just my 2 cents...I'd go with tech12volts as others have said,I read nothing but great things about his service and gear

I used Frisco car audio and tinting on Main Street, Frisco. Bryan is owner, I got a whole system done there. Tell what you want and budget and he will work with you. Pics of my tundra install are on google reviews.

Stick a bigger amp under the passenger seat and keep the factory headunit and speakers.. Any shop should be able to do that, seriously woke up my sound.

    same as jeremyd said

you can do it yourself for much less than that and keep the head unit.

@james@tech12volts can hook you up. If you can read and follow directions and have reasonable dexterity and competence with hand tools you can install an amp and speakers yourself. James makes it easy by providing all connectors so all you have to do is remove old stuff and install new stuff.

Where is the DFW area? I ve had work done at cartoys. For the most part they want you to buy all of the audio hardware at there store. I almost had them install and configure hardware I had, but they wouldn t warranty any of there work, so I backed out..

I went with James at Tech12Volts; bought the sub elsewhere, but the amp and box (and other wires and stuff) were from him. Went with a 5-channel amp, sub/sub box, and speakers front/rear/in the sail panels. Was right around $1000, if I remember correct, and it sounds fantastic.

Car Toys SUCKS! They want you to purchase all of your equipment from them (overpriced); and then they have some college student who has done installations for less than 3 months doing your install. You are waaaaaayyy better off doing the install yourself OR, wait for a Tundras.com Dallas area member to chime in with a trustworthy, reasonably priced installer. I am in the Houston area, so I am sorry that I cannot recommend anyone up there. I do my own installs (because I am a meticulous a-hole and want to be sure it's done RIGHT!). Also, others have recommended James at Tech12Volts. I too recommend him. He built me a kick-ass sub box for my 10" subs and it hits hard! Not to mention, he answered ALL of my email questions within minutes (even late at night!!).

I drove to @james@tech12volts to have his crew install the JL audio in my 2020 TRD Pro. Kept the JBL head unit...everything else gone. The sound output and clarity is unbelievable now. Highly recommend.
