I want to mount a bracket to the inside of my bed on the drive side. The screws are self-tapping sheet metal screws are about 3/4 of an inch long. Is that too long? See image as to where I want to attach the bracket.

Why not drill an exploration hole and stick a nail or something in it to see how far it is to the outer panel??? just sayin....

I don’t know about the depth of the screw. But I do know I have tried bed mounting things with self tappers and they just pulled out in a short amount of time. I’d see if there’s a spot you can get a bolt with a nut on the backside...

Bracket in. I drilled a pilot hole just big enough to fit a 1 1/2 inch finishing nail. The nail never hit anything when I push it through the hole. SO I would say at the spot I put the bracket, 3/4 inch screw is fine.
