Are bugs flushed out in the Third Gen Tundra?

When the 22 Tundra came out, it appeared that it wasn't quite a finished product. From wastegate, broken seats, and wind making it into the cabin. Those things and the "vibe" I was getting from people that Toyota was using cheaper materials made me concerned.

I've been holding off getting a truck, but I think I am getting closer now. I've been going back and forth between an F150 and Tundra.

I haven't heard about many issues with the Tundra now. Are bugs still popping up like they use to? I'm not expecting perfection. Just much better than the 2022 started off.

Stock, with a few cosmetic mods.
I think it usually takes a few yrs. for those type of issues to evolve into non-issues. Good luck in your search however.

Can’t speak for others but I personally love my ‘24. I’m not a picky person to begin with but I don’t notice any quality control issues and the truck feels super solid to me. Only had it for 1.5 weeks but so far so good.

24 pro and not a single issue. I do find myself being extra careful getting in and out of the seat just because of the obvious problem documented on this site alone. Seats are smaller than previous gen platinum but more comfortable imo.

I had the same concerns. I have been very happy with my 1 month old Tundra. It does not have all the bells and whistles that you will find in an F-150 nor the capability (like for like trim). But I will tell you that overall it seems like a better thought out and designed truck.

I haven't had any issues and I am a particular person. I can confirm the use of more plastic parts which I dislike. I am big on the mechanical components of the powertrain, which is why I went Toyota vs Ford. When you look at the size of the timing chains and components of the chassis among other things the tundra just has beefier components.

But you won't find that it has best in class towing or other best in class features. I do wish it had storage areas like the ram box or a better AC output than 400 watts in the bed. But like I said overall it's just a better thought out truck. Just my 2c.

I owned a 22 F150 King Ranch. It had transmission issues, a drivetrain shudder that changed with the grade of fuel, a screen that repeatedly went blank temporarily, repeated false “tailgate down warnings, etc. The dealer was unable to convince Ford to allow a transmission replacement, so, it belongs to someone else now.

Now I drive a 24 Tundra. After 2,500 miles, I haven’t had any of the issues I read about with the earlier models and after dealing with my Ford, I am thrilled with my Tundra. It is truly a joy to drive.

    What’s wrong with stock?
Other than the cracked seat panel on my 22 no issues.

23 here and no recalls or issues to date. I have a June 2023 build and I think they solved many of the nagging issues in MY22 and early MY23 trucks. I still have one chronic issue that is a HUGE complaint - NO SECOND FOB (ok, I said it. yep, I really did and I think Toyota has pulled the big one over all us Gen 3 owners).

It seems as near as I can figure most bugs were worked out by spring 23 builds , after that , seems much better

Had my 23 for 11 months. 1 warranty claim on a window seal, dealer didn't fight me. Other than that no issues. I even (finally) have 2 fobs!

My late 2022 has had nine of the standard issues in 11k miles. It appears some issue come and go and some have been associated with only certain trims.

I've only had my 24 for 1400 miles and I know 2024 I haven't seen any problems really but they also did just come out 2 months ago. I am cautious getting in the truck with the seat because of the seat plastic issue but I'm assuming they fixed it for the 24.

2024 Limited picked up 10/09/23. Only bug I've witnessed is fuel gauge went from 3/4 to full tank when I parked nose up on slanted driveway. It has only happened once but I've not parked like that again since.

Mine is a June 2023 build with 6K miles on it. I've had zero recalls or warranty issues. No wind noise, no cracked seat panels, no throttle hesitation, no fuel gauge problems, no squeaky seats...basically none of the common complaints of earlier builds.

I did experience brake shudder, once, while using the adaptive cruise control when driving down a steep mountain pass. I've learned that the ACC uses the brakes much more aggressively than I do, which caused the brakes to overheat and shudder. It went away when the brakes cooled down. I've avoided using the ACC in those conditions, and have't experienced the shudder since.

Overall, I'm OK with my Gen 3, but not in love with it. My biggest complaint is the overall "feel" of the truck isn't as solid as my previous Tundras. Everything from the grille to the rear bumper just feels lighter weight and more fragile to me. But then, that applies to almost all new vehicles these days, I guess.

Tundra's seem to have ironed out their issues, an employee of mine has a '23MY 1794 and it's been solid for 10,000 miles. I'd get a Tundra for sure if I was you, unless you're shopping TRD Pro. In that case I'd compare pricing with '23MY Raptors. Way more truck for not much more money, otherwise the Tundra is looking like the way to go. Ford's '24MY "update" is very underwhelming.

The only 'bug' I've encountered in my '24 TRD Pro is that the digital rear view mirror randomly goes off and asks me to switch to the actual mirror. After a flick back to the digital mirror, it works as expected. Of course the dealership stated they were unable to replicate the issue. I wish I could find an excellent service department in the Los Angeles area.

Mid year ‘23 with none of the 22/early 23 issues except the occasional fuel gauge resetting to Full if I park in the sloped driveway with 3/4s of a tank (won’t happen if you always park level and there’s a simple manual reset - hopefully a software update will fix this)

Have 2700 miles on my 2023 built in late July '23. No issues. I put 178K miles on my 2012 Tundra wil only normal wear issues. I previously owned two F=-150's, bought new and both had issues. Last F-150 had electrical issues which left me broke down twice in two weeks needing a tow back to the dealer. This was with 90K miles on it. Only slight issue with my 23 Tundra - I sometime loose my Pandora connection but that may be my phone, not the truck.

My ‘23 limited trd premium was made in December ‘22. 12000 miles. No significant issues. Wastegate issues were drastically exaggerated online and rare. They will put door seals on the ones that didn’t get them and I’m super happy I waited as long as I did to get the one I wanted. I waited over a year so I could have crewmax with 6 7 bed.

I have a relative who works at the San Antonio Toyota plant and what he told me before the 3rd gen was released, was to wait 3 years. He said 3 years is about how much time is needed for Toyota to address and get a good grasp on fixing/working out most bugs/issues.

That was all I needed to hear as I was debating buying a 2021 at the time (which I bought) or wait until 2022 for the new model.

This is why I am thinking it is better to just get a 2024 instead of a 2023.

    Lots of stuff!
I think the issues that are still out there will probably continue to follow the gen 3’s for a few more years.

The new Tacoma will help move some improvements for the Tundra as much the development will be shared so we should see some better attention put to things like noisy windows and other little annoying things.

The engine issue is such a small sampling of trucks that it will probably go away as Toyota continues to investigate and adjust.

Beware of the new Tacoma as well. Caution with New anything now. My first year Gen3 Tacoma (2016 bought in late 2015) had a lot of flaws. Some that were never corrected. A few yrs later the model was rock solid. Worth it to wait til the bug are flushed out. This new turbo 4, trans, and all the Safety (non)Sense 3.0 is a lot of new stuff to be put out together.

I have a 23 Platinum Hybrid, and the only issue I had was the broken platinum door molding. The dealer couldn't fix it without pushing it back, so I de-badged it, and it looks so much better.
