I’ve been looking for apps to ad to CarPlay that are compatible and stumbled across Google Maps. Pretty cool being able to see satellite view especially if your off-road

Check out Gaia and Waze for other nav options. Waze gives you speed limit, police, traffic, and construction notifications and Gaia is killer for off-road routes and trails.

GAIA for off road. download maps ahead especially if no cell coverage wherever you go.
    CarPlay is game changer imo

Waiting for Google to open up Android Auto to third party maps so I can use Gaia in the dash...

For navigation, others have already mentioned Waze and Gaia. I use Waze quite a bit for in-city transit as it has features for real-time alerts for hazards (disabled vehicles on the side of the road, etc), police, traffic cameras, toll booths, etc. It enables all users of Waze to submit alerts/reports to help provide more accurate data. Tom Tom Go also works, however, I believe that it requires a subscription to use. My HU has built-in Garmin navigation, so it makes it nice to have most of the bases covered in the event that I run into an area that is thin in data coverage on my phone.

For music, CarPlay allows for your standard iPhone playlists as well as other apps like Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM, Amazon Music, Youtube Music, FLACBOX, and Vox (both of the latter allow for the play of Flac audio files).

For weather, I like to use Weatherology. It is especially nice for using Siri through the Tundra's steering wheel controls to initiate commands like "Siri, play my forecast on Weatherology", and Weatherology will give you an audio report of your local forecast. (pre-use setup: You input your preferred location on your phone, select your preferred meteorologist and background music).

For audiobooks, you can use the Audiobooks app and the Audible app. These apps are really nice for enjoying a book on a trip (if you enjoy being read to rather than reading the book yourself. I will say, I am a bit picky in regards to the narration of a book. For example, Neuromancer by William Gibson is one of my favorite reads, but the only audio version of the book is just awful. It is very monotone and flat through most of it, and when a character speaks, the narrator really botches it. If you are purchasing audiobooks, make sure to read the reviews before purchasing).

You can also utilize video conferencing apps like Zoom and Webex Meet. You will need to use your phone's video camera, so you will need to make sure that you have your phone's camera positioned appropriately if you want to use that, but the display will show up on your HU's screen.

As for Podcasts, I know that the default Podcast app will work, however, I have no recommendations for alternative apps as I do not usually listen to podcasts.
