I'm about to be ready to tackle my JBA LT install. I've read that the headers will have more noise under the hood. Just wondering if anyone had wrapped their headers before install or if there is room for it. Thanks!

Anytime I have wrapped, or have seen other people wrap, headers in other cars they have caused the headers to rot from trapped moisture. Your mileage may vary.

No real benefit to wrapping the headers unless their uncoated. Wrap won’t do much to make them quieter. It’s really good at causing rot though

My ceramic coated thorleys on my taco ran cool, looked cool, and weren’t too loud (you could hear more sure, but it wasn’t unbearable)

I've seen BMW folks wrap their turbos and such to keep the temps down.

you guys are just being mouthpieces for the interwebz

Wrapping headers doesnt cause them to "rot" if you do it properly. Use high quality wrap and only do a single layer with 1/4" overlap. Dont wrap the weld joints. Wrapping ceramic coated headers is better than non coated as the coating helps the metal last longer.

Headers are a performance part. They wont last as long as oem. Replace them when they need to be replaced.

Now, I did it to control heat around my engine mounts. They did drop the temps by a considerable margin. BUT, they will not do anything to control noise. A proper exhaust will keep the sound levels reasonable. I am very happy with my @dirtydeeds exhaust, its not too loud, sounds great

From experience they’ll rot up here in the Midwest. Road salt eats through the metal.

    In SoCal you’re fine.

Thats why you get a ceramic coating. But the wrap itself isnt going to make them rot

Anything that’ll allow the salt to sit on it will eventually. Even my ceramic coated headers started to rust. Not saying they rotted. But rust did happen. The unwrapped headers have held up much better also being ceramic coated. The trucks not a race truck for me. There’s an advantage to it if your running the engine hard.

but to put wrap on to kill noise... na lol

Ok, Thank you to all the replies. The headers are supposed to be stainless but uncoated. Ran across then NIB for $200. Heat was another reason for wrapping. My previous Tundra had a little over 100,000 miles when I traded it. Never had a problem out of it but it sounded like a diesel under the hood.lol
