Anyone swap in OEM Seqouia or LX470 leather steering wheel?

Just curious about this. After making two 5hr+ drives in our late-2nd-gen Highlander over the past 4 doors, I realize how much I'd really love having a stock leather-wrapped wheel, but I'll be honest, the last Loncky unit I installed was wearing out after 2-3 years, while our OEM Highlander leather wrapped wheel is still going strong after 8-9 years of use.

I know about the options some members have used on their wheels, but while thinking about doing this last year and just barfing up $60 for the Loncky unit, I noticed the mounting and structure of the 1st Gen Sequoias. LX470 around the same years look same as 1st gen Tundra and carry similar part numbers too, I assume they're interchangeable.

Just curious, has anyone ever seen someone fit one of the newer OEM leather-wrapped wheels in the 1st gen Tundras? Looks like the price is decent - replacing with a w/cruise is in the $190-$240 range for new OEM on the big auction website or $75-125 for used. Looks like base P/N is 45100-0C181-xx (where xx is the color designation?), for my Dark Grey interior, I think my part would be 45100-0C181-B1.

Here's one of the light-grey OEM models loaded up with guts.

The one pictured looks exactly like the wheel I removed when I swapped in a 4th gen 4Runner wheel. They’re all the same and it’s a direct swap.

I keep wanting to do this as the glue in my 12 o’clock position has given up the ghost during hot summer days.

I checked the part price on a few Toyota stealership sites, and they're asking upwards of $900 for the factory wheel assembly pictured above. YIKES! I assume it'll be the same no matter which make/model/year is chosen assuming it uses the same p/n.

But maybe that's the entire assembly, and it's cheaper just to get the wheel skeleton? I'd need to ask Roman or someone similar. My typical local stealership parts dept refused to look up a part that wasn't explicitly for my VIN, "that's our policy to avoid problems".

I don't like the aftermarket wood/leather units I'm seeing on the big auction site. The $200 price point is attractive, but I want the extra non-slippery 'meat' that leather provides.

If you keep an eye out they pop up here occasionally for under 200. Also eBay and local junkyards are good sources

Surprisingly, the JY scene around here for 1st Gen Tundra is lackluster. Pull-a-Part is normally best bet for me, more locations, cheap entry, good website to look up, but for 1st gen trucks stock is minimal for the two nearest me, they're lucky to get in 2-3 a year and some are pre-picked. Without knowing exactly which alternate make/model/year is compatible, that can be a pretty daunting fight.

I'm of the mindset time=money, while I love to go picking on a yard, sometimes I'll just spend the extra 20-50% buying OEM or 10-20% extra used via fleabay. This is one of those times I wouldn't mind buying OEM if the pricing was under $350.

I've been looking for one for a while but it's hard to find used/good condition in my search. Or $350-$500 which I'm not spending.

But the same issues as mentioned above, the top of my wheel is getting sticky and would like to find a wheel with wood grain to closely match my limited wood grain.

The leather/wood wheel pic I posted a couple posts up is on fleabay for $199 right now. Search for: 06 tundra wood leather sports wheel

Should turn up. I'm always skeptical of stuff from CN/Taiwan though. That's not me being nationalistic, that's more than a decade of buying internationally speaking. 70% of the time I'm not let down. 30% of the time it's not a knockoff suspect. Usually eBay weights in favor of buyers over sellers if things go sideways, so it can be safe overall, way more than Alibaba.

Was there a tan/leather combo in OEM? I haven't seen it yet.

    From the lc100 or lc120 (land cruiser/lx470 or gx470)

    They should all fit.

    Off-topic.

Spritz a little AeroSpace303 on your sticky wheels and rub it in. Do this a few times and the wheel should restore if not too far gone.

@Professional Hand Model has a point. I've used the same on rubberized laptop palm rests and vintage brake lever hoods and it's worked great.

But the issue is that the glue that holds the PU to the steel wheel is seeping through and now doesn’t keep the PU stationary. So even if it’s not sticky it still moves around.

This is my beef with auto manufacturers. I wish I had a grid that showed Toyota's chosen name, the associated interior/exterior color code, and a sample of the actual color next to it.

Like, with my truck, I have two different colors of grey for my interior. Some of the parts are "Dark Grey" and others are "Charcoal", but I can't say which is which. Some part numbers ending with "b0" and "b1" are listed as "Dark Grey" in the parts catalog but some "Charcoal" parts also seem to use those same "b" letter designations. It's pretty damn confusing.

But the most frustrating part of it for me is this: You go to the Toyota Specifications website and plug in your VIN they give you some totally unrelated code for the color. Like, mine is 'fb12', maybe the 'b1' in 'fb12' is related to the part number color code? So confusing.

F is for Fabric. This will be V or L for vinyl or leather.

B or E are different weave/cut patterns for the seats. My limited has the B pattern, but my brother's SR5 has the E pattern seats.

I do know 11 and 12 are the color codes. 11 is the brown/tan color, 12 is the grey color.

Evidently there's a few more options too. 10, 40, different patterns.

Super helpful. Weird though, my truck came with factory leather and it's Fb12, not Lb12. Toyota's specifications also list me as having cloth captains chairs instead of leather, which matches their Fb12 code, but clearly it's not. Maybe it's just a Limited model thing.

I've noticed a wild variety in numbering for parts, but some common trends. For example, along with the b0/b1/b2/e0/e1/etc in the part numbers, while digging on the wood grain patterned stuff I see 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 used on a few things

84013-0C310 > Wood panel center console (3 climate knobs, w/4WD, NO VSC button)
84013-0C350 > Wood panel center console (3 climate knobs w/4WD, PLUS VSC button)
74202-0C020 > Left front wood grain control bezel
74201-0C020 > Right wood grain control bezel
58804-0C040 => Two-cup wood grain center console cup holder

Seems like the first 5 digits always pertain to the part category or base part number and the second five digits to describe the part. For the second five digits, I noticed 20 and 40 was used a lot for woodgrain parts, I dunno what that 10 and 50 are all about up there. No doubt there's logic behind the last five digits, like maybe 0c means it's a colored part (?), the middle digit maybe could be a revision number or the cab type (?) and the last two are the pattern or color code, maybe?

dunno. Someone could've had the seats recovered, or swapped the leather in. my truck is FB12 as well.

Not saying you're not right, I have seen trucks with the "Lx1x" interior code which were leather, I think there's something else going on none of us non-Toyota folks will ever understand.

I don't think mine is an after-add, the leather shows 16 years and 70k miles of age, appears to have the stock plastics on the covers and OEM fasteners intact. My truck also has the expected leather or leather-texture door inserts and all original OEM plastic rivets are melted on the back of the door card so I know the door panel inserts were never changed. Date codes on the back of the door cards match within a month or two of the truck manufacture month/year and dating on other interior & exterior parts I've found like center console plastic inserts and the back of the mirror glass. Weird.

I hunted out a clean 60k-120k mile 04-06 Limited AC for a good year or so before finding my truck. I was running each candidate VIN through Toyota's Specifications lookup page to see what options and packages they were built with, trying to find something with factory tow package, 4wd, LSD, and with captains chairs vs. benches. I remember at least a couple dozen like mine with the "Fx1x" interior code and option "CC" (cloth captains) yet actually had leather installed. None of those showed dealer ported leather nor were they a custom package from Southeast Toyota Distributors or similar (like the X-SP, etc)

I dunno. Again, I'm sure there has to be some logic to it all. I just have NFC what it could be.

Yes please more details. I keep coming back to this wheel but I would rather have leather all around instead of the piano black wood.

i have leather all the way on my original steering wheel, it's starting to come off at the top now. Obviously it took 16 years for that to happen, but Im liking the wood as it wouldnt do that...but would probably fade or crack in some other way after 16 years.

Def need more details on that wheel though.

Yes, got it off fleabay. I like the wood better than the oem leather. Wheel is a little thicker and the “wood” provides a lot of grip. Like it much better than oem.

I love my wife's X3 for that same reason. They put a wheel that's almost twice as thick around than most steering wheels. Feels WAY BETTER in your hands. Well maybe I'll give the ebay one a try

I have seen a couple, i believe from the gx470 that looks very close as does the wood grain but really hard to say. I cannot find ANY locally to actually compare and my lx470 is great interior.
