I've got an '07 double cab and was thinking of putting a small 1 or 2 tb external HD in the armrest and running it to my 10.1 Android double din usb.

Not sure if I can run just a cigarette style adapter to power the HD anyone done this?

Is it worth upgrading to an SSD for speed?

Given that the drive will be in your truck bouncing around a bit I would recommend a ssd drive. It will last longer also heat can be an issue so I would keep it out if it’s really hot.

dang, how much music do you have? I've got a 16gb mini flash drive that's been working great. I'm not sure how your headunit would like being able to load that many files.

You would need to find out how much juice the usb provides, and how much drive requires. I agree that an ssd would be a good choise. Less power requirements I think. SSD doesn t need to spin a disk. Even if one usb doesn t power drive you can use a dual lead cable, and plug into a second usb if your headunit has one.
