Anyone ruining WiFi hotspot in truck

Getting my Tesla style HU this week and was wondering what people are using if they are running a hotspot. I would rather not use my phone.

I have Google Fi so I just need to order a data sim. No monthly charges other than data.

Should I look for one with an external antenna? Any one better than the other? I have access to cheap ATT that I could probably pop the sim into.

Ideas?

I've read the forums on it. All 80 plus pages. The unit works great just takes tweaking sometimes. And the main bug that people have doesn't involve my truck. (Wrong temp display on zoned a/c) Also going with gen 2 unit.

Either of you guys have a wifi hotspot?

 

Where are you that you have Google Fi?

 

Louisiana. But Google Fi is nationwide.

Thank God no I'm not at Ft Polk! I spent enough time in that hell hole (actually only a few months) in the early 90's.

I have Hotspot on my phone, and the Phoenix HU. Works great. Bunch of fun

 

I had a ZTE mobley for a while. Plugs into the obd port.

Ended up pulling the Sim out and putting it in a unite explore.

 

@Fiestee23 I don't want to use my phone hotspot as stated in OP.
