I found this under my truck. 2006. Obviously rusted off.

It had a bar code sticker on it that had 4R 049 on it.

    any ideas???Thanks!
    I love my 06 tundra. Only 106K

Looks like part of the dust shield for the front brakes.

Do the '06s have drum brakes on the rear axle? Even so, isnt the parking brake mounted to the backup on rear discs?

Methinks this truck is not roadworthy.

If the rust is bad enough that entire components are falling off you may want to get it up on a lift and check out the frame. Is the truck sitting in the grass/dirt?

Those look like slugs to me. If this fell off on the ground, that would totally make sense.

Oh wow. I didn’t see those! It was sitting in my driveway after a rainstorm.

I have had the frame looked at. A lot of surface rust, but nothing major. Toyota actually inspected it like 9 or 10 years ago and sprayed something on it ( wasn’t bad enough to replace)…but that coating lasted like a year or two.

Brake backing plates rusting off is of itself, not a big deal. I've seen that happen a lot on subarus for instance with no other rust. They are a lot like exhaust parts, thin metal exposed to high heat and which are always pelted with whatever water and rocks you're driving through. If something is going to rust off your vehicle, they are among the first to go.

A lot of people who got the coating later found their frame rusted from the inside out. But not until something snapped in half. It was a topical solution to conceal the underlying rot.

Negative. Its the front. The rear plate is thick steel, and holds the brakes together, if that rusted out, he would know it. Its the front, its much lighter, and is just a dust cover/debris shield.

I would agree now that I have watched several videos on replacing the front rotors.
