After driving around for a week or so with the bakflip up, definitely would have liked to have seen more in the rear-view mirror.

Neighbor just came home with a new Escalade and the rear-view mirror is not a mirror at all - it is an LCD screen hooked up to the backup cam.

It is pretty damn nice... wider angle, doesn't matter if anything is blocking it on the inside, doesn't matter what angle you have it at, you can see everything behind you and more of it.

Wonder if anyone has rigged one of these up after-market?

My Tacoma has one and it was insane how clear the screen was. It helps when backing up also. I wish the tundra had the same set up.

Interesting - is it a full LCD or just the backup inside the LCD? If it is full, I wonder if it could just be swapped into the Tundra? What year?

it has good points and bad ones.

that little lens gets covered with dirt/gunk very easy, would negate the purpose of a rear view mirror.

especially in the northern snow states.

I think you have the OP mis understood. he is talking about how caddies are using the backup camera to feed a live view to the rear view mirror.

Tacoma has never had this from the OEM. they did have mirrors in the 2012 Tacoma that had a mini 2-3" LCD in the rear view that when you put it into reverse it would show what the now have in the center dash 7" screen when you put it into reverse.

That may be right. I read it as the rear view mirror was hooked up to the back up camera.

The Tacoma was a 13’. It was a 3 inch screen built into the rear view mirror that came on when in reverse.

I'll preface this post by saying this item is from the company that I work for, but I recently installed this mirror with a 7.3" LCD in my brother's Silverado. It has rear-facing camera functionality but also inputs for two other cameras so we did a side-view and a front-view cam. Here's a link to the item on our website: http://www.rostra.com/rearview-mirror-with-screen-for-backup-camera.php#2508273

Interesting - did you wire it directly to the existing rear-view? Does it come with homelink?

We tapped into the harness that was in place already for the power. While we have mirrors with HomeLink, we don’t offer one with HomeLink and an LCD screen.

This would be awesome if it had dual homelink buttons, compass, and auto dim.
