Planning some long distance trips with my young kids. I have a backflip mx4 that I’d like to retain. Seems like Billie bars are the best way to put a rooftop tent on top of the backflip.

Open to any other suggestions, it just needs to be easily removable for just me.

I’d also like to hear of any issues you’ve had with the set up, if there is any.

    thanks.

Can't help with Billie Bars, but I'm very happy with my Elevate racks on T-Slot rails over my MX4.

I like that I can still fold it to open.

They're rated for 750 lbs. static load, 500 lbs. driving, and 250 lbs. off road.

I don't have a RTT, I need racks to haul surfboards and SUPS mostly. I was surprised how few options there are to run racks with a tri-fold tonneau.

Racks come off in 5 minutes, two nuts at each corner, maybe 10 minutes to put back on. I only take them off to go thru the car wash.

When I bought mine they only had a High and Low setting so I drilled my own holes in between, just high enough for my boards to clear the cab. They now come with holes for Hi/Med/Lo.

Do you know if I would retain factory rails inside the bed? You got me interested in this. I ordered a voodoo set, but these seem like they’d work better. Also does Thule accessories work with this?

You mean these factory rails? Yes, depending on when you got your MX4, they used to come with the drop down brackets you see in the first pic.

I just learned yesterday that the new and "improved"? MX4's no longer come with these, and the cover mounts directly on top of the bed rails.

If you went with the Elevate racks, you'd need to remove your cover and reinstall it with the Elevate T-Slot rails (2nd and 3rd pics) and possibly use a thinner piece of weatherstripping (to compensate for the thickness of the flange on the Elevate rails.

As far as the Thule accessories, the crossbars on the Elevate racks have a T-Slot as well, so (I'd think) you could mount just about whatever you want on them.

They also come with tiedown cleats that go in the T-slot rails that your racks mount to. (Also in 2nd and 3rd pics)

I had some Yakima stuff left from my last Tundra, so I drilled the cleats and mounted the Yakima landing pads to them, so I could run the Yakima crossbars down low if I wanted to. I may get the necessary attachments to put bikes on those. (You can kinda' see the Yakima landing pads mounted on top of the cleats in the 4th pic)

I'm real happy with the system thus far. I haven't carried anything very heavy up there yet, but the paddleboards you see in the earlier pic are 14' and 12' 6" and everything felt nice and solid at highway speeds.
