A couple of years ago, my 2017 Tundra wouldn't start. Turned out that a squirrel chewed up the engine wiring harness at the point where it passes through the firewall to the ECU. Cost me a little over $8,000 to get it replaced.

Seems that rodents find Toyota wiring insulation tasty. Supposedly it was made from a soybean product.

After trying multiple deterrents, I finally resorted to stuffing old bath towels tightly around the wiring as much as I can. The critters have chewed the cotton towels and made nests with that, but so far they haven't been able to get at the wiring.

Amazingly, they're smart enough to avoid a large rat trap that I put under the hood.

Anyone else have any similar experiences?

    Too many, but not enough....
Dude on here almost died because of it. Best deterrent i have found is bright light if you can't park inside.

    LOL, no he didn't.

There are several strategies to try but using a rat trap to catch mice isn't one of them. And not sure how someone operates a vehicle that has old bath towels stuffed all around the engine compartment.
