    ***Update Aug 11 2020
Problem solved. Took the easiest route first and swapped the Mobil 1 with OEM oil from the dealership and the problem has been gone now for over 2k.***

2013 5.7 108k Flex fuel CM has developed a pretty noticeable lifter tick. Anyone here ever tackle this problem? I’ve always ran 87 octane btw.

I’m hesitant to add any kind of oil treatment because I’ve heard these Toyota engines are pretty picky about oil viscosity. I’m not sure if those treatments would affect that.

I’ve used Mobil 1 0w-20 since new with no problems so far. I’m going to swap out the oil with Toyota 0w-20 Today to see if that helps but I’m not too hopeful.

You could run a quart of ATF through it for a drive and then change your oil. ATF is high detergent and will clean crud that might have gotten in that lifter. It has fixed a few things for me in the past.

Old mechanics trick and it does work. Not sure why the OP thinks the 5.7 is fussy with viscosity? Before 0w20 the motor ran 5w30.

Was it "High Mileage" Mobil 1? Or " "Adavanced Formula" M1?
Remember some members thinking it made their engines louder than normal.

Haha nope! I’ve heard others say that. I wasn’t sure if it was true or not so I tried Toyota oil anyway. Somehow it made a difference.

It was the regular synthetic with Toyota mentioned on the bottle.

I was referring to the oil prior to Toyota's oil. The oil that was in use with the lifter noise?

What did you run for an oil filter. We have issues with aftermarket filters more than oil making these trucks tick.

It was mobile 1 synthetic that mentioned Toyota on the bottle.

Toyota oil is made by ExxonMobil and is really close to mobil1 full synthetic but has a slightly different additive package. I think i remember it having more moly or something along those lines.

Here is a good read about different oils if you have the time, toyota oil ranked high on the list too.
