Anyone Dyno Post Tune?

Seems like every tuner that comes out seems to dyno their product and another product showing that the competition loses power. I know DAP claimed that BD lost power and I believe OVT claimed that DAP lost power when comparing dyno results. So my question is has anyone gotten a tuner and got their Tundra on a dyno to verify claims? I have JBA LTs on the way and am considering a tuner next to get to most out of them.

 

There’s not a lot of power in a naturally aspirated tune with or without headers.

There’s tuners out there claiming power when they don’t even change afr LOL.

without custom tuning on the Dyno you’re going to get a generic tune that just changes the way the truck drive much like the tow haul button does.

Bullydog writes a tune specifically for a tundra with long tube headers which keeps stock fuel curve in place since their other tunes actually change up afr.


For the cost, if just getting a ‘canned tune’ Bullydog is the best value. And we actually found Hp on the Dyno with it.

I have personally tried both so will share my feedback.

Bullydog - For the money this is the best "Tuner" you can buy that will net actual results that can be felt. Respectfully imo great for someone who plans to only have a catback/intake mods and wants usability of different tune parameters. Way better than pedal commander as it will accomplish the same and more. Tech support is also great which is a big deal for most.

OVTune - Great for someone wanting to wring out the most of their invested mods. Full access to various parameters of your truck. Biggest gain is trans tuning which makes a big difference. Not easy for a novice unless they spend hours researching how to use. Dedicated forum support which leaves your questions in the hands of the community in most cases. Cost is twice that of BD but then again you get twice as much too.

I'd have to say I'm still happy with my OVTune even with the hurdles. Performance is greater with OVT over BD but I'm also full bolt on NA. One day I'll strap her to a dyno but for now I just enjoy driving my race truck

 

This is great feedback thank you. OVT looked promising but far too complicated for my simple mind. I have had BD in the past and while a performance impact was felt I did wonder if DAP or the new guy D3 would be better. I’m only running LT Headers and TRD exhaust with an H pipe.

 

I have heard good things about DAP but my efforts to get ahold of Shrek over the course of 3 weeks turned me off. Many phone calls and emails without a single reply. That was my reason for walking away from DAP. We will see with D3.

 

The transmission shifts so much better with the bullydog you will notice a difference alone just from that. Even if power is barey higher, the motor/trans operate better with each other. It also will hold gear better on the highway post bullydog

 

Are you running the high octane tune?

 

yes. Ive gone back and forth. The high octane tune drives noticeably better. Its hard to describe, it isn’t a magical amount of HP being added, the truck is more enjoyable
