I bought my truck used, and it has no sticker on it to tell me when the next oil change is needed. I've read that the service engine light will come on when it is time, but is there a way I can somehow check in the settings when that will be so I can be prepared? When I bought the truck, it had around 45,000 miles on it, so I'm thinking I will get the tires that were basically new when I bought it rotated at 50,000 and just get the oil changed then if I can't find anything to say otherwise.

Unless the previous owner manually set the oil life in the maintenance, it won’t tell you when you’re due. I’d say that you just get it changed and then go from there. It’s easy to set all the maintenance reminders.

Do you know how to get to the maintenance settings?

Same goes with the tires. Not everyone maintains their vehicles the way they should. Just rotate them and then set the reminder in the maintenance section.
You’ll be due for a trans fluid/filter/gasket replace at 60k also.

I agree - conduct maintenance now and begin a new rotation. Better safe than sorry.

On your app screen, there’s an icon for maintenance. Might have to scroll until you find it.
You can set it by date or mileage. I use mileage. It’ll ask you how many miles you want to go on in the specific item that you’re setting, oil, tires, etc.
    it’s pretty easy.

Got ya! Thanks. Maybe the previous owner did that and that will give me some info too.

I wouldn't trust a maintenance record on a used car without seeing dated receipts. Anyone can go in the maintenance app and add in items without ever having them done

Have you tried the old fashioned way? Pull the dipstick and see what the oil looks like.

I did, but that wouldn't do me a whole lot of good, as I wouldn't know the difference in what I'm looking at from good to bad.

New oil is a lighter yellowish color and has a "fresh" oil smell. Old oil is dark brown sometimes black and often smells burnt. At least that was my experience in the past, modern long life oils may be harder to distinguish.
