Anyone work for the railroad, please let me know how it is. Going to apply for a norfolk southern conductor position. Watched a bunch of YouTube videos, feeling confident I can do it. The pay is a lot more then I currently make. I’m done doing AutoCAD sitting around an office rotting away not being valued.

I worked as a manager for a couple railroads for 10 years.

Money is great, but be prepared to work long and odd hours. You will 100% miss birthdays, holidays, and events. Get past those realities and you’ll be alright.

From what grumbling I've heard, valuing employees is not a thing for railroads.

My brother sure does like it. He went into the career knowing it would one day end….he also doesn’t need to work so he also says “no” a lot.
