Any of your 3rd gens making a weird noise

When the truck is idle it's making rattling noise like it's a 1980s beater is yours doing this?

Well I hear it from outside not inside

 

Nothing inside or out. I don't even hear the ac compressor kick on sometimes.

 

Ok then I have an issue. I thought when I picked it up at first it was so quiet I couldn't tell if was off or on 1 week later I heard the rattle now its bugging me ever since I'll try ro take a video and book it with the dealership

 

If you get a chance to make a video we may be able to help more. Could be something your ears are picking up that's completely harmless but better safe then sorry.

This is very little and lightly what I hear at times. Your link you showed most people say if the truck is in drive they hear a ticking mine is in park.. just because I want to take a video is quieter then usual. I will try to take one tomorrow when I have went out and about. It could be the turbos cooling off. I know it's been quite hot lately and the truck is already magnetic grey so it tracks more heat.

 

only issue i have is the extremely loud fans in the grilles to the point i can hear them in the cab. seems mostly to be the ac fan cycling.

 

Sorry but I can't hear any distinct noises in your video, seems more or less a running engine noise. Try to record and post more videos so we know what noise you're referring to

 

Is it only when you are on Drive and are on the brakes? I sometimes noticed a rattle going through drive throughs, only happens on drive, not when it’s on and on Parked

Was your AC running when you took that video?

 

This very much doesn't sound right.

If this was a hemi, which I had for ten years prior to Tundra, id say one of the lifters is failing/getting stuck, slapping the cam shaft, and it'll all break in the next few thousand miles sending lots of metal shavings all over the engine.

With the Tundra, I guess we have the bearing issue? So maybe that's the bearings starting to crap out.

I hope it's not that, it sounds weird and caught my attention for sure. I'd hate to wait another year. I literally waited a year for this truck

 

Hopefully I'm wrong, and it's just your ac compressor. Just turn off your ac and fan and tell us if it sounds better?!

Toyota will just rebuild your engine if it's bad, takes a month or two

 

Id sure feel silly if it's only the AC compressor :S Ill know tomorrow, it's probably why I don't hear it at night time as much since the nights are much cooler. I find it still loud if it's indeed the AC Compressor. I had many vehicles all my life and I don't think from v4's to v8's I ever heard a distinctive tick like this.

 

My first thought was yeah that sounds like the truck with the ac on. If I have some time tomorrow I’ll go see what mine sounds like.I think these trucks naturally sound Bad at idle.

Definitely have dealer take a look. Ac compressor shouldn't be that loud unless its not charged properly. Could be something else entirely but i would definitely take it in

 

I'd like to report it doesn't make a difference ac on or off

 

We're you able to get an appointment at the dealer? Do you need to continue driving it or can you park it until it goes in?
