    Ref: 2013 5.7FFV DC RW, 2nd owner, Bought at 84k now at ~90k

    Yesterday I got my oil changed at the dealer after buying my truck used out of town from another Toyota dealer. Bought it with ~84k Changed the oil at ~90k, opted out of a 90k service because it didn't include anything I haven't already done.
    Apparently the dealer doesn't drain and fill the transmission fluid at 90k, I didn't know the dealer had that option. Anyways I don't know the service history or use of the last owner, but I never changed my 1st gen Tacoma transmission fluid from 133k to 280k. I should just keep driving and change it at a later date? Never change it?

    Check service history on Toyota owners. If no record at least do drain and refill so you can see condition of fluid.

    I’m a fan of drain and fill. You aren’t going to hurt the thing by doing an extra drain and fill, so I’d get it done (or do it myself) if for no other reason than a little peace of mind. Take a peek at the fluid that comes out. Lifetime fill is bogus; the fluid degrades over both use and time so even though you are at less than 10k miles a year, it’s still timed out. My opinion..

    What I follow.

    Oil & Filter: 5k miles or 6mo.
    Transmission Fluid (drain/fill): 60k or 6yrs. (OE)
    Coolant: (1st time) 100k or 5yrs. (2nd time, on) 50k or 5yrs. (OE)
    Differential & Transfer Case: 30k (OE or aftermarket)
    Power Steering Fluid (OE or aftermarket Fluid)
    Brake Fluid, inspect at 3 years (aftermarket)
    Sparks Plugs: 120k (OE)

    I kept getting conflicting temperature ranges for when to check the trans fluid. Each Youtube video or service recommendation had different temperature ranges for when to open the overflow port and when to plug the port and let the fluid cool before checking.

    I opened each of the attachments that Brums provided above.

    Here are the temperatures in Fahrenheit for each transmission type.

    TIS shows 5 different code transmissions for 2012:
    A750E - 97 - 115
    A760E - 127 - 138
    A760F - 127 - 138
    AB60E - 99 - 111
    AB60F - 99 - 111


    You can find the code for which transmission is in your truck of the inside of the driver's door. It is in the lower left corner of the sticker.
