So, I left my Tundra in the long-term parking at Dulles Airport for 10 days and tried to remote start it tonight on the way over on the shuttle bus from the terminal. Bzzzzztttt... App throws an error that the command was "interrupted", try again. So, I tried several times and same thing. Then I tried the remote lock command and same thing. Then finally the app pops up a message that if you haven't driven your truck in 7 days "remote commands may not work". WTF? Useless.

Hahahah. What is going on with these auto manufacturers. I tried to email Toyota from their website and I couldn't get the request t9 submit. Make a new remote to recognize the phone app and start these toyota with a quick push of a button.

Seems ridiculous but maybe a safety thing? Just guessing at not defending them.

On my 911 Porsche it turns off the alarm/lock radio after 6-7 days of non-use to save battery juice.

I'd guess the transmitter/receiver in the truck does the same. If it didn't we'd see a bunch of posts about people complaining their batteries died after the truck wasn't driven for a week or two.

I wonder if you can get around this by starting the truck remotely every 9 days.

Given that Toyota stated that having not "driven the truck in 7 days" I would guess that remote starts, even within 7 days rather than 9, would not bypass the shutdown of transmitter/receiver.

That makes sense... they need to give us an option to preset cellular radio sleep and wake up dates for these scenarios where we know we won't be driving for a while. The fallback would be that it could still sleep autonomously again if you failed to make it back on time.

Unless 7 days is the maximum that can be maintained without risking degradation of the battery or other systems. All in all, it's hardly anything more than a slightly inconvenient 1st world problem.

you are right. it's an app fail. at least other car brand tells you exactly what's going on instead of just showing error message..also, Toyota's connected service is not free....

What is it that an app would drain the battery?

I honestly don't understand the obsession with remote start. My '23 1794 is the first vehicle I've had with this feature. I used it a few times in Florida, while on vacation, to cool the truck down before going out to dinner. That was nice, but not a necessity, by any means.

I'm not bashing people who can't live without it. I guess I'm just an old curmudgeon who can deal with a hot or cold vehicle for a few minutes.

Yesterday I had to run some errands, it was -7 degrees out (MN) if you lived where I live you would understand.

I live in Canada and never use the thing. I grew up getting in cold cars and it just a normal thing to do

I live in Colorado, and have a place in one of the coldest mountain towns in the state. Below zero temps are common place. Still never use the remote start.

I have no problem getting into a cold vehicle, but remote start is nice to get those windows cleared without going outside to start it. While I have no problem getting into a cold vehicle in general....there "might" be a few humans in my household that care "slightly" more than I do.

Not the app, the truck's onboard LTE radio apparently goes to sleep to keep from draining the battery too far. Which prevents the app from connecting to the vehicle.

For me. It warms up the engine and defrost on those cold morning while I have a cup of coffee and biscuit sandwhich before I head out at 5 am.

I'll pile on here. Bet you guys didn't know this...

I got into the airport at 130am. Very dark. Freezing out. Remote started the car (that part worked). But it doesn't turn on any external lights. Ok, no problem, I'll turn on the flashers to help me find it. Nope, it tells you: "The request cannot be completed while the vehicle is being driven. Please park your vehicle and try again." -- I shit you not. (the vehicle was obviously parked).

Add that to the fact that it refuses to start unless you lock it first. Ok, I can understand that thinking but how about you just automatically lock it instead of forcing me to do it if I push the start button?

And then the fact that the new Tacoma and even Camry (a fraction of the cost of the Tundra) have vastly more functionality (and Digital Key) than this PoS application.

I just bought a used Hyundai Tucson for my kid ($20K) and that thing just puts the Toyota to shame. Really sad.

And let's not forget we get to pay a monthly fee for this almost completely useless app...it's insulting, yet I'm stupid enough to do it...but I think I'm about fed up.

    Sorry to vent.

Yeah, I expected a response like that in about 20 mins. I'm surprised it took 1:20. This forum does not disappoint.
