i couldn’t take it anymore. My Dad who owns a 2006 4X4 Tundra has betteroil pressure than me.
He does take exceptional mechanical care of his truck. It looks like the devil, but It is sound.
His oil pressure at Idle is just under half. Mine is at 1/4. We both use identical oil brand and weight. Same oil filter also. I have 75K miles, his near 150K.

I tried something different this oil change. I used equal amounts of Mobil 5w30 and Mobil 0w40. My oil pressure has risen! The most change is anything above idle is much closer to
the half way mark. When I accelerate, the pressure goes higher up and stays there.

The range is still 1/4 to just over half way. I’ve noticed that the majority of the time, the pressure is higher.

    I’m satisfied.

You did not state if your truck is same year your dads so we can not make an apples to apples comparison.

Maybe different years read different on the gauges? Maybe low on one is high on another?

Oil pressures rise and fall with RPM’s. At idle pressure on my 2002 V8 sits just below a 1/4. Not worried a bit about it as thats the norm since new.

I’d be concerned about your changing the oil viscosity more than anything.

The early gen 1's have idle oil pressure just at or below 1/4. I can't speak to the 05-06, however the 1/4 reading is perfectly normal as @Professional Hand Model stated. He has owned his truck since new I should add.

    sorry guys,
    I have a 2005, he has a 2006.
His is one owner, mine is been all over.

my research shows that the Australian version of the same engine runs a thicker oil. i live in Texas so a hot day here is 105. more if stuck in traffic.I feel that 0w/30 is a good oil but not the best choice.
The MPG guys are winning over longevity. IMHO.
I could care less about MPG. Give me an oil that protects in extreme hot weather and doesn’t thin out under heat stress.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think your thought process is flawed perhaps due to the echo chamber of oil viscosity postings on the internet. The idea that higher viscosity oil is needed in Texas due to the heat is meaningless without an oil temperature gauge. The radiator and coolant regulate the temperature of the steel and aluminum in the block, it is those surfaces that transfer heat to the oil. Plus we have a really neat oil cooler already built in to the oil filter housing.

Do you really think that a 10 or 15 degree difference in ambient temp between TX and PA has that large an impact on oil temp? Oil that is subject to combustion temps of 700f-1,000f. If you are most concerned with thin oil under stress, then bottle viscosity is not your issue, but rather oil change interval. Unless you're running straight SAE 30, multiviscosity oils lose their viscosity and "thin" due to breakdown of the viscosity modifiers that are added to the lower viscosity base stock. This is a function of mechanical shear breakdown (being pumped, squeezed, rubbed against by metal parts), chemical breakdown from combustion by-products, and yes, temperature. So if you always want thick oil, change it more often.

my 00 *warm* idle oil pressure sits above 1/4, and my dad's 02 sits at just below 1/4. couldn't tell you which is better. my truck has an unknown past, and my dad has owned his for 15 years.

My 05 runs just below 1/4 at idle. These engines have no lifters, the valve train can be run almost oil less. So high idle oil pressure isn’t really needed

Now the gauges? They can be off from on another. I bet if he put the 06 cluster In his 05 the oil pressure will appear different.

My 06 pretty much sits at the half way mark all the time.

Yeah. The 02’ sits just below 1/4 at idle and shoots up to 3/4 at revs. Drops to just above 1/3 at 45 mph.

I would be curious to hear what the oil pressure difference between your dad's and your truck actually is. If you really want to know, change the oil in both trucks, using the same viscosity oil, and then connect an oil pressure gauge to the engines. The oil pressure senders on these engines are notoriously inaccurate and, if I recall correctly, the spec for oil pressure at idle is 4psi.

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
I was driving my friend's Sequoia (2002) with the 4.6 and I noticed the oil pressure looked terribly low at idle. The engine sounded fine, it wasn't knocking or making any ominous noises.

I don't think the gauges are very accurate, they are more of a cartoon illustration than a measuring device.

I'm using Mobil 1 synthetic with a Mobil 1 oil filter (M1-301A) which is twice the size of the oem filter.
