What’s up gents. I am considering buying some RW rims this week (will powdercoat the beadlock black) and selling my icons. I have always loved the RW look and am hoping to lighten my wheel/tire combo. Hoping to also get some larger and lighter tires in C load helping to soften the ride too. Thoughts? Pics of my current setup and similar to what I am after.

Both look nice. Depends on what you’re selling and buying the wheels for. Is there another mod that the money can go to? Towards the new tires?

Yes any money from the Icon/ST maxx setup would go towards new tires. Will hopefully pay for half of them. The current tires still have a lot of life left though 15/32.

Personally I like the top wheels the best but ultimately it’s up to you OP. Even if the tire is fairly light, it’s still going to take a lot of torque to move them. So basically I don’t think you with have much to gain if anything from going to a bigger but lighter tire.

I think with the right tire/wheel combo I could save 15-20 lb for wheel which should be pretty significant. But it looks like I’m not crazy to consider this so that’s good

I will say that 15-20 pounds is significant…. I didn’t realize that the bottom combo would save that much. Cause I would assume that would be worth it.

I switched from RW to ICONs both in 17inch, if you want larger tires, i would say icons since they have that +25mm offset which is perfect for a 12.5inch wide tires to not rub or rub minimally. I had the RW with 285/70/r17 ko2s and they did great, however, with 315/70r17 ko2s, the inner sidewalls would be too close to the UCA for my comfort. I also switched because that little bit of track width ICON wheels provides, imo it perfectly offset the ifs's narrowed width due to a 2-3 inch lift. I will attach some pictures in a moment.

Both look badass. I’m only planning on moving up to 285/75r17 though.

I see, what size ICON do you have? 18s I assume? since you mentioned you wanted more sidewall.
If that's the case, a set of 17s either RW or icon would be great, just for me, i like it to stand a little wider for the extra stability and cancels out the narrowed track width from lift. Both good options, and if we know eachother a year ago, i had a set of RW sold for $500 lol

No you are not crazy. I had RW on my 2nd gen with powdercoated rings, and I should have kept them when I sold it.

They are a sharp looking wheel, the only downside I found with them was washing them. Cleaning between each pair of tight spokes was rather tedious.

Haha the icons are 17s. I do like the way they look. Just trying to bring the weight down.

Great minds think a like! I will say I haven’t had time to keep up with my cleaning with a baby at home. I got a $100 chemical guys kit but haven’t tried it out yet, just keep going through car washes. :(

I recently dropped my E rated tires and a similar amount of weight from my wheel/tire package, and really enjoy the feel both comfort/and steering are improved as well as MPGs. I'm happy with it , if you like the new looks as well , it sounds like a worthwhile plan.

It would be mostly tire then, the Icons were 28lbs and the RWs are 24lbs. 4lbs is still something, just not massive be itself.

    15-20 would be noticeable.

yeah I just noticed the 30lb weight on icons website says packaged. So it must be a little less. I am hoping to drop another 5 lbs on tires so probably closer to 10 which really isn’t that much. Maybe not noticeable at all.

I weighed mine at 28. Icon said the 30lb was the shipping weight, so box included. I weighed my current Method 316s at 26lbs and have seen the RWs weighed at 24ish, a little over.

The RWs are great, I want some, only issue was theyre pretty tucked which isn't really my thing. Adding a spacer would defeat the weight savings.

Add another 1.5 inches? Would look good but it’d be a mud slinging some bitch! And I’m not a fan of fender flares..
    FYI 305/70/17’s (34x12.5)

Sexy. I’m leaning towards the RW. I requested more photos from the buyer to make sure they aren’t in bad shape before I go waste 3 hours round trip driving to get them.

Update. Bought the RW but they are in need of powder coating. I got them at a good price but now I have a project on my hands. Oh well the fun begins. Not sure what color route to go.

Option 1: Black-out and remove the beadlock all together
Option 2: Gunmetal (pretty much match the original RW color) and blacked out beadlock and center cap

This is what I did, since for some reason I read that the baking process for powder coating may harm the forged aluminum structural wise, I decided just to have someone sand and refinish the wheels. They were sanded down completely and then the primer layer is very thick and serves as some kind of protection, then painted the wheels with gold color, and the rings with dark grey/gunmetal ish color, originally wanted to paint the torx screws but it was too difficult of a job, so I left them color-less.
