Keep it within forum Code of Conduct rules... and fire away. We all love drama around here.

    Bring it on!

I do lots of selling and buying on that platform.

I've come to the conclusion that anyone with a room temperature I.Q. can have a FB account.

These fuckers have to have $1500 phones, but won't answer your questions. If they do it's going to be with emojis.

    Forget complete sentences.

There's a Code of Conduct? LOL

I will only speak the truth, minus names, addresses, ways of contact. (Which I never share with anyone anyway).

I have decided my biz needs a dump truck. Single axle dually, PTO dump (not electric), certain length of bed, etc. Nothing too big but nothing too small.

So I see a dump truck not too far away (few hours' drive) that looks to meet all my criteria. Low miles listed in ad.

I message the guy. All smiles UNTIL I ask about coming to buy.

"Oh you'll need to haul it." I inquire further. Turns out it's sat for two years. No mention of that in the ad.

After some questions seller states "it will start" but doesn't answer the question of whether or not the bed will go up. Later he replies (to the effect as his grammar was bad with run-on sentences) "I guess it'd make the drive but it's silly anyone would buy an old truck and expect it to drive that far. Your decision."

I replied "I won't waste any more of your time. If a vehicle cannot be trusted to go down the road, perhaps the ad should have stated such."

    Asking price was near 10K.

If I was selling a vehicle I didn't trust to go down the road, I'd either fix that so it would or I'd state such in the ad.

    The search continues!

Last week, on Craigslist, guy was selling a dump truck that I know was sold last spring. Seemed to meet all of my criteria but I wasn't looking to buy then.

He had indeed bought it last spring but wanted something bigger. After some emails he mentioned "cab and door rust." This was not mentioned in the ad. To my amazement he sends some pics, good pics, of bad rust. Cab roof has rusted completely through with some holes! Nothing like being rained on as you go down the road.

Ad never mentioned the rust nor sported the pics.

I suspect a cab swap would be in order.

Note to self: when you go to look at a tall vehicle, bring a ladder so you can actually see up there.

My wife buys and sells a fair bit of stuff on Marketplace. One of the weirdest interactions I recall was when she had a kid's snowsuit or something like that posted for sale.

Lady: can I come pick this up today?
Wife: I'm busy watching 3 young kids and a dog, but you could come get it this evening, if that works for you?
    Lady: Nope! Bye.

I’ve finally opened a FB account. It’s anonymous just do I can look for car parts. I’ve sent 3
messages today, asking questions and then providing contact number. no replies.
I keep hearing about people selling stuff in minutes or hours. People here in BC are super paranoid,
Not that I blame them, many have been robbed at ‘meetings’.
I hate all forms of trying to sell anything. I have learned if someone wants to come,
for goodness sake let them come. Money talks. I don’t dicker much, learned to sell
for a bit less just to sell it.

Are you sure your market place account is active?

Face book doesn't usually turn on the market place feature untile you have been a member of FB for a few weeks. At least that was my experience.

I don’t even know what that means. It lets me send people messages. My buddy who’s been on
FB for years pissing me off with ad links hasn’t had messages back from a couple of the same people
either. I’ll ask him to explain the marketplace account. I’ve not tried to sell anything yet. Just
trying to buy parts for the Tundra

Yes, that part is very, very common. People will put up an add and won't respond to your questions. Like I said above, these ass hats spend a grand on a phone but won't take the time to type out a decent response.

    I don't get it either.

It’s unfortunate that forums are becoming less and less popular. I usually had good experiences buying/selling, especially during the prime of Tacomaworld back when I had a Tacoma.

I was going to snag a semi good looking GS300 for 1,500. Talked to the guy and made sure we were squared away before I traveled to San Diego. He stated I will need to tow it for a dead battery, old tires and a misfire. Not a big deal, I had a spare set of 17"s with fairly new tires, which was advertised....

I had lined up everything, a day off, autotransport trailer and a junkyard stop for cosmetics and a door replacement.

The day before I called this dude and was like. I snapped the harmonic balancer bolt, will need to be extracted. Its got rod knock, electrical gremlins, the dash doesn't light up.... At that point I was like. I'll pass bruh.

I bought a lot of parts from other forum members on an antique Chevy truck forum. Hope to find a nice set of OEM door handles for sale on this forum actually.

So I'm looking for a cap for my 6'6" RCSB. Beware of Dodge Ram 6'6" caps. They seem to sell them anywhere I type
Tundra Parts and yet over half of the caps are for Dodge. They aren't square don't waste your time. That being said
I finally had a person reply to a message.

I have heard of the "hi is this still available" but since I'm so new to Marketplace, I didn't know how to send a message. I hit "send" by mistake and BOOM that was the message sent!

I immediately sent a followup message "sorry didn't mean to send that."

I still use Craigslist. 80% of the time when you ask someone about their post, even if it's new, they never respond. I don't know what they are trying to do by posting stuff if they have no intention of responding. I report the motherfuckers.

And just like OP mentioned, they leave out crucial information on the item until you are pretty much on the way to pick it up...

"Oh, I didn't know you wanted this push mower to have an engine."
"I didn't think two blown head gaskets would be a deal-breaker."
"Oh, you wanted to purchase both ice skates??"

Only fake examples, but you know..

My biggest worry is about selling.

As present, not a real good way to track cash sales. How long before we are gonna be taxed?

The after sale survey really bothers me.

Did you sell this item to such and such?

Did you sell this item other places?

    Did you sell this item?

    Have not sold?

I always choose have not sold.

This is one of the reasons our MODs here try to make sure folks are adhering to the CoC and such for BST... I've done several transactions through this forum, and they've all been top notch

Seems like the requirements on participation within the 'community', post count and such helps mitigate a lot of the BS that folks deal w/on FB and others like it... I've never had a FB account, so I don't shop there. But, I've heard enough stories of folks having bad experiences in those circles. So far, I haven't needed anything bad enough to steer me toward FB, and I hope it stays that way...

FB isn’t all bad. Like everything in this new world just gotta be careful.
    BTW —. BC isn’t where I live, it’s where I’m from.

BC - BEFORE COMPUTERS. When things were easy, spell check didn’t exist.
And my pet peeve - Brakes are for cars. Breaks are for bones, when you let spellcheck
    sell you breaks for cars!

I had a good FB Marketplace experience today. Guy has a 1973 Chevy dump truck, looked to be about what we wanted. He wanted to do a video call but I had no idea how to do that.

He gave his number and I called him. He answered all of my questions, including "why do you want to sell?" He later messaged me with the photo shots I asked for plus a bunch more, including all the body rust areas I never asked to see! So he's clearly a good guy to deal with.

Unfortunately, no 1973 to 1987 Chevy dump truck (including his) is going to work. In 1973 Chevy moved the fuel tank over to the passenger side on the outside of the frame rail, which not only exposes it to a T-bone collision but blocks exactly what we hope to mount there. *I recall that fuel tank location's fire hazard making national news around 1991....I recall it on TV.

    Update:

A dump truck we had agreed to buy...seller backed out today after numerous claims of "I'm saving it for you, no deposit needed."

He knew I was sending today, signature receipt, a substantial deposit (1/3 asking price). My goal was to reassure him just how serious we were of the buy but I think that served to scare him of legal action if he sold it to someone else. He called and backed out before the post office opened. "I've owned it so long, I've decided to keep it."

He delayed the sale two weeks ago when he called and cancelled our buying visit...but it's true, bad weather was coming and it ended up being a very serious amount of snow and ice. When he called today he seemed to have forgotten he was the one that cancelled the second (to buy) meeting.

I suspect he found someone else that was willing to pay more. Farcebook Scamplace strikes again!

I'm basically burned out now and don't want to even look at dump trucks until spring or even summer.
