So I took a magnet out in the garage and checked my Tundra. I was surprised to find that every other part was metal. Tailgate metal, rear bed side not, rear door metal, front door not, front fender metal, hood not. Why?
Are the non-metal parts aluminum? I like that being that I live in Wisconsin and the salt kills vehicles.

BTW, checked my wife’s 2020 Pilot and the hood and front fenders are not metal but the rest of the body is metal.

Aluminum is a metal… maybe you mean magnetic.

Aluminum is a pretty expensive material compared to steel. Toyota wanted to save weight but didn’t want to add too much to the cost of the truck. Here’s an article with more details: https://www.sae.org/news/2021/10/engineering-the-2022-toyota-tundra

It’s interesting Ford can make the F150 body and bed out of aluminum. They sell 5x or more F150s than Tundras so Ford probably gets a good discount on the quantities of aluminum they use.

Yes, I guess I meant to say steel and not metal in the narrative.
    Great article, thank you.
It seems odd that two doors are steel and two aluminum and then the bed is composite. But it all does make sense.
