So I installed a new OEM toyota aluminum housing today while performing an oil change. New seals etc torque etc. The oil was slowing seeping around the edges. Re torqued cleaned and test drove the vehicle and the same issue. Re installed my oem plastic part and no leak. Just fyi.
Also amsoil 0-20 keeps engine smooth.

Sounds like the gasket wasn’t on correctly but

I’ve had the metal housing for years and no leaks. Had it on my 08 for 7+ years before that too

Did you seat the o-ring high enough on the metal housing? My recollection is in needs to be closer to the threads than you might think.

Correctly installed, the o-ring seals on the bore of the filter bracket. Lubricate the o-ring liberally with clean motor oil to prevent damage when you screw on the cap. Intuitively, most people want to install the o-ring on the filter cap flange where it says "no gap"...it won't seal there.

    Oring was installed installed correctly.
No leaks at idle, but after a couple of 5k rpm runs i checked and there was oil again. Too bad, it looks like a nice machine item.

If the o-ring was installed properly in the groove, then try lubricating the o-ring and filter bracket bore well with some of that super-slick Amsoil before screwing on the filter cap.

When I did my last oil change, I noticed a slight resistance as I screwed on the filter cap. This was after I smeared fresh motor oil on both the o-ring and the inside of the bracket bore. If you encounter resistance when screwing a dry o-ring into a dry bracket bore, that resistance is friction that can lead to the o-ring "rolling" in the groove and causing damage to the o-ring.

IIRC that aluminum filter cap is cast, and machined surfaces are minimal. It's an economics of manufacture issue. Even with a minor machining error, o-rings still have a few thousands "forgiveness" (compression) that permit them to seal if the dimension is within tolerance.

Irony - Toyota claims that the plastic filter cap was used on the Tundras to "save weight"...
