I ordered from autoparts.toyota.com, selected a dealer in another state to save tax and get free shipping. Usually, parts come from them directly, but this time, it came from New Jersey. It was poorly packaged and damaged. The dealer says we didn't ship it. Send it back (on my dime), and maybe we'll replace it.

I called Corporate, they want me to file a claim with FedEx who is going to say it was improperly packaged.

My motor is out & this is delaying its reinstallation.

Does anyone have the number to the West Caldwell N.J. location?

    Too many, but not enough....
It's physical fine most likely. The plug should function properly. I would use it after having it load tested first at autozone or somewhere similar.

I wouldn't think twice about slappin' that puppy in and going. O.K. Maybe I'd clean up the boogered connection housing plastic with a small file.

As others have stated, I'd install it and push for a small reimbursement for the trouble.

    I dunno?

I've replaced the alternator on our 5.7's. It's beyond a stupid design and location. It took me all day and I had the truck on my lift.

It was easier to remove the rad, shroud, fan and the PS pump to gain proper access.

I know I wouldn't be installing that alternator after doing all the work to gain access.

I'm sure other can do it faster, but not me.

In addition, make sure the new alternator has the iron bushings in the bolt holes of the alternator body. They absolutely have to be in place or your belt alignment will be off and you will eat the belt.

My replacement alternator did not come with those bushings. I had remove them from the old alternator. Of course the iron bushings had welded themselves to the aluminum body because of galvanic corrosion. I had to destroy the body of the old alternator to get them free.

Edit: looking back at your pics, there are no bushings showing. Make sure you install those.

It's going in with a replacement motor at a shop as preventative maintenance. I'd hate to install a bad one & then have to replace it again.

    Thanks
