Are there any recommendations how to protect the front end from bug splatter and sand/rock chips at highway speeds? Including bug splatter on the radiator?

I'm wanting to protect my new 2018 crewmax during occasional road trips. Driving routes 5 or 99 thru Calif's central valley in summer is bug city, and many are hard-shell bugs that can chip paint.

I'm a bit leery of the old school, vinyl car bras. If/when they start flapping, or some dirt gets underneath, the paint will get dulled, scratched, or even worn through.

Toyota offers the clear paint protection vinyl and I’m sure there’s plenty of places you can have it done locally if your dealership wants too much for it. It works great. I had it on my Tacoma. Bought a crewmax off the lot and it didn’t have it but it’s in my short list of things to do.

Yea, don’t put an old school bra on. Not only are they totally lame but well they are totally lame.
Call some clear bra companies or others in the automotive industry. Maybe auto body places etc. I’ve heard of something like a ceramic coating but know nothing about it.

I'd even consider the temporary white wrap used for protecting cars during shipment to dealers... at least I know that white wrap pulls off cleanly.
But I have no idea what the white-wrap reputable brands are ... there are some horror stories from people who've used clear "Road Wrap", for exmpl.
3M is one of the few I'd trust, but while they make the clear semi-permanent "paint protection films" (PPF), 3M doesn't seem to offer these temporary PPFs.
So maybe I'm better off with the semi-permanent, 3M PPF.
Still would have problem with bugs on radiator ... maybe I could figure out how to temporarily attach fiberglass screendoor mesh to the honeycomb-style grille.

How seriously bad is it and how often are you encountering this?
I would just power wash them off if it’s only a few times a year.

    Only couple times per year.
I've had it very bad on previous vehicles, on any highway that goes thru agricultural areas. Paint can get damaged from "bug juice" and hardshelled beetles. I'm preferring to prevent, rather than try to fix after-the-fact.
I get OCD-obsessive & cant stand to look at bug-splattered front end during a 3-7 day trip ... it's much less stressful if I know I can pull off a temporary protective film, or periodically replace a 3M semi-permanent film.

iv'e gotten hit with bugs and sand storms on the 99 through Delano, its not fun if you care about your car/truck. get a clear bra done just make sure it is a stain resistant film as i had 3m film before and the bugs etched the film. i have had good luck with nano fusion film and when i get where im going i just use a quick detailer to get the bugs off.
