I bought my truck from a mechanic that drove it for about a year. The carpet is covered in oil and grease, so are the seats. The carpet looks like he used it to store old parts for a while. It's baaad. Im not even going to try to salvage it. I will probably rent an extractor for the seats and use it on my wife's and daughter's Camrys while I have it rented

Has anyone ever switched to different floor covering than carpet, like rubber or vinyl. I'm not seeing much when researching. I thinking of going that way as long as it had a clean fit to it.

I know you said you aren’t going to even try to salvage the carpet, and you didn’t ask, but i’ve had excellent luck cleaning up nasty oil soaked carpet. I lay the carpet out on something flat (concrete pad, pickup bed, trailer), then pour at least a gallon of Purple Power cleaner on it, let it soak while i do a little bit of scrubbing with a brush, use a high pressure pressure washer to clean it off, let dry, then repeat the process one more time. You can buy a 2.5 gallon jug of PP for fairly inexpensive.

I've had carpet that was soaked with both gear oil and chainsaw bar oil that PP has remove. The trick is to NEVER dilute it with water, and never spray it on something that's already wet, otherwise it won't work very well at all. Wear gloves and don't let the PP dry on anything since it's a bit corrosive. NAPA and walmart tend to have the best deals on the 2.5 gallon jugs of PP. Pour about a gallon on the carpet and scrub it around for about 20~30 minutes. The more powerful the pressure washer the better (i happen to have a 3500psi belt drive). It works pretty amazing.

I’ve seen interior floors done with Raptor liner. With proper prep and masking it looks pretty good.

Use this, with an air blower, and a shop vacuum.
Spray this stuff on the stains, put a shop vac on the fabric and use the air blower to blow into the fabric at an angle. It will literally blow the stains up out of the fabric and you guide the shop vac nozzle to suck up the junk in front of the air blower nozzle. I have made awful seats and carpet look new again with this stuff, its like magic.
Also of note, be sure to wash your shop vac out with water/bleach afterwards. Dont let this stuff/gunk sit in your shop vac it will smell to high heavens and you will have to throw the shop vac away.

There’s a 1GT guy on YT who removed and power washed his carpet. He felt like the power washer ruined the pile on the carpet in some places where he really got into it so maybe don’t go full apeshit on it. May be good to watch if nothing else to see exactly how to remove our carpets.

Be aware that you may be introducing more noise into the cab that way especially if we have a padded carpet. Although aggressive treads on the highway would easily drown that out.

Oh yeah definitely, good call. Would add lots of reverberation throughout the cab. But if you go that route, I doubt you’re looking for Lexus luxury.

Will also note, I’d skip on renting the extractor. I purchased one of these Bissell upholstery cleaners on the recommendation of a The Detail Geek YouTuber and it’s been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made (especially with two toddlers in the house).

Made the 10yo cloth interior on my old F150 look literally showroom new. Took astonishing stains out of the carpet of my wife’s old 2002 Sequoia. Took stuff out of our couch I thought would be there forever. For not significantly more than the cost of a rental you can own a unit with multiple uses, IMO any DIYer NEEDS one of these.

Yeah, that will get the sand and dirt out STAT.

But I've used Simple Green (the green one, not the purple one) numerous times on automtive carpet with a basic stiff nylon brush. It typically gets 90% of everything out of the carpet IF you get the sand and shit out. No pressure washer needed, only a normal hose.

If I were going to use a pressure washer, I probably wouldn't go lower than a 40° angle. But before I did that, I'd try doing the sand removal shown, then using my Simple Green method I posted at that link, then rinse out thoroughly before drying.

I dunno if you've ever had to deal with Georgia clay stains, but one truck I bought with light tan interior from a water feature guy was caked in red mud from sites he visited. Every last ounce came out. It may not handle hardcore grease/metal mixture stains, or get the stink of gear oil out but ...

It works well. Just gotta get the carpet out.

the directions say to spray it and dab with a paper towel. Sure this works and the paper towel will be dirty, but to get the NASTY stuff out and REALLY get it out, use the air blower and shop vac trick. The air blower somehow blows the spray into bubbles, and the bubbles are what pulls the stains out, and the shop vac pulls it up as its bubbling. Its weird to listen to me tell it, but if you try it you will see. Spray it down, wet it big time, and use a blower at like a 45 degree angle to the fabric and you will see it literally wipe away the stain but it will make a bubbly sludge, and you will have the shop vac nozzle there to suck that stuff away as you keep blowing towards the shop vac.
You might have to do this twice to get it like new clean, but you can get it like new clean with that stuff.
Also, dont forget to wash your shop vac out. For some reason it will smell like ammonia, wet dog, and sewage if you let it sit and marinate.
