OK folks, 2010 DC, Limited. This problem has happened 3 times. My truck is locked. I use the fob to unlock all the doors, then I open a rear door to get something. I close the door and leave the truck unlocked. 20 seconds later, the alarm goes off. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks

Something in your pocket depressing the alarm button causing it to trigger? Could be a battery issue as well as I've seen low batteries set them off. Could also be something wrong with the door itself. Are the interior lights on when the alarm goes off?

I may try some troubleshooting today, but the weird part is, the truck is unlocked when the alarm goes off. I know some vehicles automatically relock after a while to protect you from accidental button pushes as you walk away. Maybe I've got a bad door that shows open when it is actually closed. But if that was the case, you'd think I'd have problems every time I lock the truck after driving it. EDIT: the manual says it will lock after 60 seconds if no door was opened. I've never had this problem with opening the drivers door, only rear doors.

I guess I'm the only guy with this problem, but I'll keep posting in the hopes that someone can help, or eventually I'll figure it out. Twice now the alarm has gone off while I'm putting gas in the truck. Keys are in my pocket. So to Jason's point, I swapped out the remote with my spare, and it happens again at home while I'm installing my dashcam. So it's not the remote, hmmm.

Update- I used Techstream (what a PITA!) to turn off the auto relock feature. I think that will sort it out.

OK so that didn't work. A bunch of research turned up detail on the "Passive" alarm option. I didn't turn it off before because it sounded like it would disable the whole alarm. This brilliant idea arms the alarm even when the truck is unlocked, just in case you forgot to lock it. They never stopped to think you may have left it unlocked on purpose. Anyway I turned that option off and tested to make sure the alarm still works (it does) so we'll see how this works out.

    Alot of them
All Passive does is create an automatic time countdown to automatically set the alarm. On my 13, I have seen it arm the alarm but not actually lock the doors.

    I found this in a European market Toyota alarm manual;
"Passive arming mode arms the alarm system automatically without the car being locked. It protects
your car in case you forget to lock it.

When this option is activated, it will arm the alarm system after following these steps:
    1. The engine is stopped, and the key is removed from the ignition.
    2. A door has been opened and all doors have been closed again.
    3. No door has been opened for 30 consecutive seconds (counter restarts when all doors are
    closed again).
If any door is opened when the alarm system is in passive arming, the siren will sound after
14 seconds unless the engine is started or the remote control pressed.
When a door opens, a beep will inform you that passive arming is active, and the alarm status light
    (LED) will turn on.
    Note:
    – During passive mode, volumetric sensors are deactivated.
    – If you lock the car by remote control, the alarm system shifts to normal arming mode.
    Remark:
    – The system does NOT lock any doors, only arms the alarm system.
    "

This is a really dumb option, IMHO. So you go out to your truck and unlock it, take something out, then close the doors. It then decides you want the alarm on, so when you open a door again a minute later, the fricking horn goes off. Ugh.

I'll see how it goes, but it's gone off when the drivers door was left open and that shouldn't happen regardless of the settings, so who knows. I'm not impressed.

Update; it's been fine since, so it definitely was the (stupid) passive alarm option.

I made an appointment with north hollywood toyota and
1: they had no idea what passive arming was and told me it was impossible and I must have had a after market alarm installed....
2: they wanted me to leave the truck a minimum of 4 hours to figure it out.
    3: I hate dealerships.

so, where can I get this handled in L.A. area. or who has a techstream??

Sorry I can't help you, but I figure I'd mention that it's been over a year since I turned the "feature" off and no problems since.

yeah I know and have no doubt its simply the passive alarm mode that needs to be turned OFF but i am just wondering where to go get it done without dealing with imbeciles.

The main hassle is getting Techstream to connect. After that, it's pretty easy. Maybe try another dealer? Or a local independent Toyota specialist?

I would call Toyota corporate and ask them where you can get the work done since your dealership doesn't know what they are doing.

    I will try.
for now I called a few dealerships and they all talk to me like I am an idiot that has no idea what he is talking about and there is no such thing as the alarm re-arming itself.... patience they say...

I did it myself with Techstream. I found it very finicky, had to keep trying to get it to connect but it worked. The instructions are attached.

I'm going to check my Carista this weekend, but I do know that is not a techstream only option. Any Shop with decent diagnostic software should be able to do it. I turned mine on with an Autel.

SOLVED: Was within the customize button on left menu.

My alarm was set by local dealership but somehow got turned off.

How do i get to this screen? Had my laptop hooked up the other day and couldnt find it?

Edit: i see customizable setting as the heading, but didnt see that option when i was connected. Do i need to run the health check option (or whatever thats called) to see custom features?

    Thanks for your help!

I need to turn back on the auto relock feature. Can you tell me where you found the settings. I looked around this evening and didn't see it.

    Thanks
